I wish I had some screenshots of the first lobby with it's average 5-10 people online to post whenever a thread like this pops up.

Spring has been promoted in a lot of different ways, and the community keeps growing. Word of mouth is great - I've shown spring to everyone I know that is even slightly interested in RTS games. I think once SWIW is released it will attract a lot of people that don't even know what TA is.

We might advertise the community to a limited degree at some point, but primarily we want the games to bring in new players, not the engine.
Stuff
I can appreciate that. But it's doing a disservice to the content packages available to the community to advertise them as a small part of a whole. There are many projects here that are more solid and more fun than anything in the indie gaming scene as it stands.

I'm not saying don't go out there and post in forums and stuff "hey, look at this cool project I found!", just understand clearly, we're not a TA remake with a small collection of fringe third party games. We're a gathering point where third party developers distribute on the platform of the medium we've established here. I would MUCH MUCH rather have players come for gundam or evo and stick around once they realize that "oh, this platform does alot of other things as well"

And yes, spring runs TAish content... but get it while it's hot, because we can't guarantee we'll be able to support that indefinitely.

AF, when you pay our advertising bills you can complain about how our "official stances" work. We don't make anyone with interest in the project do anything or not do anything. I'd kind of like you to follow the "official stance" but if you're not an active part of the spring project team, it's at BEST a friendly suggestion. It only really applies to how our moderation team and development team personally approach the issue. If something really becomes a problem we'll make a rule about it. But I really doubt there will ever be any rules regarding what people are allowed to say when they talk about spring off our servers and community centers. We're not Nazi Germany.

Im not talking about whats allowed or not allowed, the simple act of making a statement on the developers/project leaders stance on the issue, or basically opinion, has an immense impact on forum politics, forum rules are besides the point.

But what most exposes my point is this:
I'd kind of like you to follow the "official stance" but if you're not an active part of the spring project team, it's at BEST a friendly suggestion.
Im not asking for enforcement of an official stance, I'm asking for one to be given in the first place and before the ensuing flame war about it begins!!!!! Right now your holding a peace conference to prevent war after the war has been fought and not before.

The mere presence of an opinion from those leading the project has a huge disarming effect. Don't wait for the forum posters to finish arguing and flaming each other to intervene with the 'official suggestion', give it as soon as possible in the name of prevention to save moderation headaches later.

I'll also point out that people who want to 'spread spring' dont want to spread spring at all, they want to get more players in the lobby which means BA, afterall nobody plays spring, they play games that use spring.

AF, realistically we hadn't put much thought into the issue either until the debate had become somewhat heated. It's not like it was just a matter of flipping a coin, we had to think through the issue to decide what we wanted as well.

Thinking through the issue would also have made a good official statement.

I used to do general promotion and specific game or mod promotion. I lack the resources or time at this point, but I will return to these initiatives in the future.

I considered entering KP for PAX10, but I don't have the time to go there and represent it. I'm sure none of the actual developers do either.
