It really shines on the enviroment, which was so greatly developed and polished by Games Workshop.

TA is the only RTS I don't find boring, plain simple.
I got quickly bored with CC:Red Alert, AoE, and even Starcraft, which I played once or twice well after TA (I was spoiled
).
Yet, I have a good remembrance of Dark Reign. Probably because it was the first "RTS" I ever played.
I guess I might appreciate Rome:Total War and maybe even the recent game about Napoleonic wars if I took the time to play them.
But the only game I'm willing to play now, apart from Spring of course, is SupCom.

Alantai, I agree there...
My first RTS was Command and Conquer, the original in DOS, it was great back then, digital music and video's including actors and computer animation, great sound, great graphics, that will always be in my fondest memories in gaming history, however TA redefined the genre, and TA had it's own feeling to it which I grew very fond of.
The moddable engine made me stick to it even today.

TA IS THE KING! AND WILL BE "TILL"......... CT outdoes himself again. 
As for starcraft(no offence, but it never really was that cool), I have it, but......... I havent played it in more then like 2 years....... For blizzard games I would have to go with Warcraft 3RC/FZ(because of the ablity of the map editor, and how it was made).
A couple other favorits that I have are Warzone2100(never owned it, but played the demo, great idea). And lastly, KKND2 Crossfire(Kill Krush 'N Destroy 2-made by I think melborne house, now owned by infogram). This game beat starcraft by farrrr.............. Same sorta style graphics like cc, but better looking(kinda like starcraft), but a game you could play forever......
