I really like this new texture, I think it looks like you carefully planned for what the unit will look like from a long distance? I like the bigger more prominent details like the fork thing and black squares on the track covers, much better choices of coloring... light/dark areas and the rusty metal instead of a plain and utterly boring completly desaturated eye gouging gray is delightful.

Overall, just shows a crazy improvement over the earlier work which is awesome to see.

In game old model looks much better. So, new has a very sharp detalization for such size. IMHO.

The old one is washed out. The new one looks better at playing distance which is what's the most important.

New is too motley... Looks like heap of unassembled components.

Well, I guess we just disagree in a fundamental fashion then.

I think he's saying the new texture just looks too 'busy'. On the other hand, the old one is washed out and dull.

Are you using Advanced shading when taking that pic?
I don't see the glow working at all.

Or maybe its the map he's using that has too bright of light settings, it looks way brighter than it did in Upspring, that might be it?

Most maps use an ambient setting of ~0.5

The new model is MUCH better at playing distance. Not so much that the texture looks alot better, but it stands out alot more and makes it easy to pull the unit out in a crowd.

Yep, the contrast is way up compared to the other one.

I prefer the old model. The new one, while undoubtedly having a better texture, is quite over-detailed from the RTS perspective, which tends to make the model in-game look like a jumbled mess that is only distinguishable while moving.

However, on the other side, the old one looks a heck of a lot like the (original) Goliath tank.

I dunno then, but there seems to be some serious overbright going on that didn't show up in either Max when I rendered it, or in upspring.

Something is causing it and its confusing the shit outta me.

No, it's the map lighting settings. An ambient light of about 0.5 will make the model fullbright (or almost) when it is facing the light source.
