No, exactly the opposite. We did.

That's our lego, super-sized.

Could you only afford one block type?

Or was it a 'no man should have a greater or lesser block type then the next man' sort of thing? ;)

In Soviet Russia, Lego plays YOU! And they only come in one color, red.

Well, most buildings came in 2 colors: light and dark grey (as seen on that pic WZ provided) :-)
And, only one block type has major advantages, too - it greatly simplifies logistics and so speeds up construction time (which kind of was the goal of those blocky designs in the first place)

Got the texture started, lots and lots left to do.
Unwrapping the curved faces was a bitch, but I finally managed to get it with almost no stretching.

Still trying to figure out a good color set for it.
Its not as seamless as the Leveler, I'm finding it very difficult to get a layout that works for it.

Here is what I got.

I think the big blocks of granite on the side throw it off-balance a bit and the red thingy looks like it's checkered, but otherwise very awesome.

Agreed re: the blocks of granite.

I think this is one of your best textures you've done so far, it is really very good. My favourite part is the weathering you've done on the part towards the front - very realistic.

Another area that could use improvement is perhaps the preshading on the barrels - something is wrong there; I can't quite pinpoint it, but it definitely doesn't look right. I think it's because you've mirrored the barrels, so that the preshading is showing the light coming from two different directions for each barrel

I really like how the bump mapping (if that's the correct term) is done. It really gives it depth nicely, well done.

Shouldn't it be a bit "longer"?

Yeah the main body looks as if it needs to go a little further past the guns.

And the blocks of "granite" as ppl call it seem very out of place, other than that its pretty good.

We discovered this back when he did his first model... but Mr. D works up all his models from a blank metal texture. The big block of metal is no more than a currently unfinished region.

No bump/normal maps.

Also:
lots and lots left to do.
I'm pretty sure the sides won't look like concrete blocks when he's finished.
