You need to break the 200 meg barrier. Give us a map SO large.

What smoth said is pretty much exactly right. I suppose the differences in style with nanoblobs modelling per se would be the fact that evolution is built more along the lines of a cohesive style, whereas nanoblobs was more of a steampunk genre, which even by definition is generally not cohesive. <bestest run-on sentence evar!

@ neddie:
I would love to do it, if only for the Bawwing (and zwzsg saying tile tile tile, HA!). A sadistic piece of me misses it. However, my cpu starts sobbing at the mere thought (course, technically with mosaic mapping I could do it, even though it would take for farking ever to render... not to mention compile (being as I would have to use l3dt's compiler to excape the limitations of mapconv)...

Then laying down features or metal spots... Daddy, I'm scared.

I wonder if I could feasably pull off a 128x128? Heh.

Bawwing and random forum drama... GO!

Oh and make sure your unit textures are at least 1024x1024 each, the more the better. You gotta fill those 768MB VRAM some cards have!

LOL! I wasn't going for surreal. I was just screwing around, stealing from random sources- the Strider was built because some dude posted up a rendered tank and said, "hey, that would look cool in Spring", among other things. The Lord was based off of shiny anime robots from the 1970's and stylized Jesus pictures I found at random.

There wasn't any attempt to have a "style", per se- both the Wolf and the Archer, for example, were DRB's crazy ideas, and the original SquareRook was going to be, literally, a walking Aztec temple, armed with a cannon- we were going to have "carved" letters spelling out insults in various languages, but I refrained, mainly due to time constraints ;)

So, er... any final "style" that resulted was purely in your heads. Really. At no time did I regard it as a polished set of art. P.U.R.E.'s closer, although it has some rough spots, mainly early stuff that I can't be bothered to rework at the moment, since the game's less than half-finished. Just the way it goes, sometimes. Not enough time, too many things to do...

Oh, and Forb... for what it's worth... it's a fun concept piece. I enjoyed the video.

BTW UVmaps should never be crammed together. You need as much space between objects as possible. Wouldn't do to get confused while texturing would it?

You don't get confused if your modeling app shows the highlighted polygons on the UV layout.

The main use for spacing is to prevent bleeding from filtering. Generally, two pixel to the borders and four between the isles. Or double the numbers if you want to overdraw at a higher margin. I go with 0.005 units to the borders and 0.01 units between isles for 512 maps. I wish wings' internal mapper could use pixels instead of units.

Wait... is this about misinformation?

Even rattle fails with epic results from time to time. I feel a lot less alone.
