edit::
hmm I tried to send a PM and got a forum post instead.
Anyways, I guess I should make a generic spring installer icon and 1 specific one as an example, lets say, a CA installer icon.
I'm imagining a red box with the spring logo on the front in white seen from above from one of the corners.

links are broked
These would be nice editions, though I have a feeling that image thumbnails will not be coming back, given the current layout.smoth wrote: Image thumbnails in the latest files section are gone.
Patience, you will be again.smoth wrote: I am/was an admin, I cannot update files any more. Bad enough that I spent days straight updating pics for the maps. Now I cannot even start that over again because I cannot modify file details.

Yeah I agree that there should be some optimizations.smoth wrote: Also when you click on an image thumb that java window thing runs slow as hell. It make browsing image a pain, I miss the old method.
Licho and I were thinking about making a general update utility. At the moment I made a (very poor) updater for IceUI and he made one for CA that is working quite well.
Now we thought about a seperate tabbed GUI program (with an API for lobbies) which has checkboxes for all mods, maps, Lua scripts, lobbies, whatever and automatically updates the selected items..
Since this overlaps with the idea of an installer that downloads selected mods/maps, it might be better to let the installer install nothing at all (content-wise) but rather call that utility after setup has finished..
We should probably start an extra thread for that updater to get it started.. It would be cool if we would get some help since I don't have much time atm and I already have the ladder site and IceUI which both still need much work..

Well, competition in that area would probably lead to content creators having to provide meta information for each update utility..
Imho we should concentrate on one open source cross-platform update utility as flexible as possible to support torrent, direct downloads and SVN commits for maps/mods/Lua stuff and possibly even Spring test builds..

The problem with jelmers effort is its totally secret. There're no details of any kind being given out to anybody who would really have a use of it.
So far no details have been made public, I as maintainer of aflobby have had nothing, and the spring lobby people seem to know pretty much nothing too. Satirik has made no mention either, nor have any of his svn commits suggested he does.
Which means that at one of the most crucial design stages, the developers who're the most relevant, are the ones who're being kept out of the loop. So i wouldn't be surprised if an alternative system was developed and supported regardless of whatever jelmer makes.
