as we have all said.. it has been done already. Try gundam, the two units in that shot are different from the Gelgoog that they are based on. Even more interesting is the green and yellow unit is based on a unit that was already limited to 6.

Image(no limit)

Char(red and pink mech) is faster more damaging and has a 360 degree fire arc. His effectiveness is entirely dependent on your ability to micro him.

Thomas Krutz(yellow and green) can fire his shoulder gun, rifle and missiles all at the enemy for the same cost as a standard gelgoog cannon. Again, that also includes the fact that his base unit is limited to 6

However, an interesting idea is to generate a random number 1-3 if the number is three the unit can execute the morph lua and morph into a hero type unit. Yielding pseudo random heroes.

Another feature of "Heroes" in other games (AOE, AOM, XCrafts) is that they gain experience that can be spent on special upgrades... I know we can do that... another feature is Area of Effect abilities for Certain Units nearby.

Oh, right, how could I have forgotten about Boogie's devolution.

It's been doable in OTA for a couple years.

Doable since ages.

Take a look at Devolution 4 for TA. Yeah that was the mod to the Captains. They have various unique abilities such as:
- they improve as they gain XP
- they have an AOE aura which improves other units.
Actually, other units see that Captain is closer than range X and "improve" themselves.
- there can be only one of them (TA has no FBI tag for it)

Another good example is TAWP's Arm and Core comm. They can be upgraded with various addons such as an AA launcher, a shield and.. uh... forgot about the rest but it was about 4-5 upgrades in total plus a teleporter.

Now given the fact that we'll have LUA in 0.75 there's isn't much of a restriction to what can be done other than your own LUA skills.

So I think we have established that this is both possible and expandable with the new Lua scripting..

smoth, where in 1.11 is this to see?

I've been scanning the bos files and gamedata and have yet to see anything remotely like what you described. Is it a different version?

Have you checked the FBI?

Alternatively, just by playing like regularplayer, you'd see that Gundam has lots of units with a unilimit written just next to their description, and that indeed, the engine doesn't let you build more than the number specificied.

no, those units are in the zeon side, level 2 factory, the one shot that was posted has the factory in the background. but since you have have not picked up on it, the little pictures are using the unit names and you can see the files to look at by looking at the imagename.

Well, the last sentence of Smoth post deals about "an interesting idea" that he is considering for the next release. I'm pretty sure LUA morphing units can't be done in 0.74b3 but requires 0.75. This is why you won't find LUA-morphing in Gundam 1.11.

However the rest of his post deals about what's in current Gundam release.

Thanks for clearing that up, zwzsg. I misunderstood what he was trying to say.

I thought that part made it clear that it was just something I was tossing out there for people to waste brain cells on. Well, that and lua morph cannot work in version 74 :P What could I do to make it more obvious next time?

Well, for one you could just be obvious. :)

But seriously, I haven't seen v75 in action. Is the build out there capable of unit morphs?

His post did make it pretty obvious ^_^

As for the second remark, yes, that is possible (and has been implemented) with luarules.

totaly, I have it written into the gundam design doc now. :).

Trepan has a spiffy video of in the lua forum.

I'd be careful with the morphs, it's easy to make a unit and forget to outfit it with the right changes, especially with a large number of units. Would that be just morphing Zaku2s and rx79s to other loadouts or also e.g. morphing a Gelgoog into a Char Gelgoog?

I may add other load outs later but at the moment what I am looking at is technology research.

For example:
If you never research beamrifles as zeon the gelgoogs would use machine guns. The gelgoog cannons would be unavailable. Char would be give a machine gun instead of a beam rifle

If you research beamrifles the machine gun wielding gelgoogs will now be able to buy new beam rifles and there will be a beamrifle gelgoog available. the gelgoog cannon would be available and char would now be built with his beam rifle.

Ah, I thought you meant e.g. only vanilla Zaku2s are available at the factory and to make Zaku2RLs and such you have to select a Zaku2 and tell it to morph...

That adds a lot of micro, I like keeping an option to go, *oh sh...* I built the wrong thing and morph but as far as the factory goes, I think it would be good to leave the new and old options there. That way players are not slowed down by a click fest to morph their zakus. I always hated that with starcraft. If I want a guardian I should be able to build one!

Good call. I have the same problem in Dawn of War. Build a squad, then clickfest into a good squad.
