Except how long does it take to create a unit? A day at least. How long does it take to write a charicter capable of killing said unit?
If I don't spell check, at least five seconds.
PS: Deci was actually close to the right mark. The Xorquin are planning to use the engine as one big gamma ray gun.
Huh...

Huh...
Pix placed her hand against Jimmy's face, feeling the skin. Jimmy smiled at her. ├óÔé¼┼ôNow...├óÔé¼┬Ø He asked. ├óÔé¼┼ôWhy did you think I was dead?├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôI...didn't feel a...pulse.├óÔé¼┬Ø
Jimmy blinked. ├óÔé¼┼ôWell...that's weird.├óÔé¼┬Ø
Pix replayed the moment in her mind. Then she felt a flush rising to her face. ├óÔé¼┼ôI...I am such an idiot!├óÔé¼┬Ø She shouted, smacking herself in the forehead. ├óÔé¼┼ôI felt on the wrong side.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôWhat?├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôYou were lying on this side.├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix pointed. ├óÔé¼┼ôThe artery is on this side.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôOh,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy covered his mouth with his hand. He didn't quite hide his smile. Pix glowered at him.
├óÔé¼┼ôYou could have moved when I touched you,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix snapped.
├óÔé¼┼ôThen the Xorquin would have finished me off,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy said.
├óÔé¼┼ôYou could have warned me at least,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix muttered, looking away. Jimmy leaned in and kissed her. Pix bit his lip, a little annoyed. Jimmy kissed her harder. Pix felt herself falling backwards against the wall. Jimmy moved with her, hand finding her hand. They laced fingers.
├óÔé¼┼ôWhy'd you have to do that?├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix asked, breaking the kiss.
├óÔé¼┼ôDo what?├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy smiled.
├óÔé¼┼ôI was working up a good angry for you.├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix glowered at Jimmy again, frowning as hard as she could. Her antennae sparked. Jimmy kissed her again.

├óÔé¼┼ôWhat the-├óÔé¼┬Ø The technician who was working at life support blinked his outer eyes. ├óÔé¼┼ôSir, sir!├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôWhat is it?├óÔé¼┬Ø Jorquin asked, walking to the life support. He'd been working out ways to get Pix to turn around without reprogramming. Now he'd lost his train of thought...├óÔé¼┬ØThis better be important.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôI think it is,├óÔé¼┬Ø The technician said. ├óÔé¼┼ôWe've lost contact with one of our guards. He's either taken off his suit without orders...or...├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôOr what?├óÔé¼┬Ø Jorquin asked, not liking the only answers that he could come up with.
├óÔé¼┼ôHe's dead.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôSend out a team,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jorquin said, grimacing.
├óÔé¼┼ôCan do,├óÔé¼┬Ø The technician said, nodding. He picked up the receiver on his computer
---------
├óÔé¼┼ôSo where'd you get the knife?├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix asked as Jimmy rooted through the Xorquin's corpse.
├óÔé¼┼ôIt was in the air lock,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy said. ├óÔé¼┼ôEmergency tool for cutting through jammed hydraulics. Works just fine on Xorquin.├óÔé¼┬Ø
Jimmy rolled the corpse over and opened the belt pouch he found there. Something rattled inside. Jimmy pulled it out. It was a small, hand held radio. The rattling came out of the translator still looped around the corpse's neck as: ├óÔé¼┼ôAll teams, locate Number 13 and report. Use deadly force if necessary.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôOh Sewage,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy muttered. He grabbed the plasma rifle from the floor and brought it whipping around to face the air lock.
If real life had a sense of the dramatic, then the air lock door would have opened then and there.
Instead Jimmy stood there, feeling a little stupid, holding the rifle. Half a minute passed.
├óÔé¼┼ôJimmy?├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix asked.
├óÔé¼┼ôWait for it,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy muttered.
Finally the door opened. Two Xorquin stood in the airlock, rattling to one another. Jimmy snapped off three shots in quick succession. One bolt struck a Xorquin square in the center of mass, flinging him backwards as the plasma bolt burst through the top of his head.
The other two struck the wall.
And burnt they're way through. Air started to rush past Jimmy and he dropped his rifle. The remaining Xorquin brought his gun up, a long barreled laser rifle. He was about to blow Jimmy's brains out when the emergency knife flew through the air and buried itself in his middle eye, sinking up to the hilt.
The Xorquin twitched, then collapsed.
├óÔé¼┼ôWe've got to plug those holes!├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy shouted over the din.
├óÔé¼┼ôIs there a patcher around here?├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix shouted. The air continued to whistle past them.
├óÔé¼┼ôThe air lock!├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy shouted, standing. He and Pix pushed through the gale, heading into the air lock. Next to where Jimmy had found the knife was a patcher. He grabbed it.
├óÔé¼┼ôYour holding it backwards!├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix shouted.
Jimmy handed the patcher to Pix. She took it and stuck the business end on the hole. It chunked and the goo hardened instantly. She repeated it and the gale stopped.
├óÔé¼┼ôNice work,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy sighed. ├óÔé¼┼ôSo...where are the human model space suits?├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôI have a skintight,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix said. ├óÔé¼┼ôYou can wear that.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôAnd you'll just skinny dip?├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôYou wish,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix muttered. ├óÔé¼┼ôI'll wear one of the Xorquin suits.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôWill that work?├óÔé¼┬Ø
Pix nodded, grinning. ├óÔé¼┼ôHuman skin tights chafe my intake/outtake port.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôRight,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy said, picking the human skin tight off the wall that Pix had hung it up on. He started struggling on it.
├óÔé¼┼ôYou need to take your pants off,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix said. ├óÔé¼┼ôI'll turn my back.├óÔé¼┬Ø
Jimmy pulled the suit off. After a moment of hurried working, staring at Pix's back, hoping she wouldn't peak. She didn't. Jimmy felt the skin tight, grinning.
├óÔé¼┼ôI have Awesome abs,├óÔé¼┬Ø he muttered, looking at himself.
├óÔé¼┼ôYeah, yeah. Now you turn around,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix said. Jimmy did so.
Pix yanked her shirt off. Then she glanced. Jimmy didn't peek. She bent over and slid her pants down. Jimmy peeked.
He started coughing, going a bit red in the face. Pix zipped the Xorquin suit on and frowned. The gloves were floppy, her pants were baggy and she felt as if walking would be hell. But it'd work.
├óÔé¼┼ôJimmy, I think you're going to have to do most of the fighting,├óÔé¼┬Ø Pix said, looking at herself. ├óÔé¼┼ôI feel like a Slor in this thing.├óÔé¼┬Ø
├óÔé¼┼ôHand me that plasma rifle then,├óÔé¼┬Ø Jimmy said. Pix did so, and this time reality got the timing right.
The airlock doors opened and five Xorquin stood, their blank faceplates staring at Jimmy.
Jimmy held down the trigger and swung his rifle around. Plasma pellets sprayed through space. Four of the five Xorquin were struck dead, their mag boots holding them in place. The last had detached his mag boots, kicking off before the stream of plasma hit him. He slid a air pistol out of his holster and fired a burst behind him, sending him shooting forward, above the prison complex.
He moved into the gravity field and fell onto the roof. Jimmy kicked out of the prison, holding his rifle. He had one shot left. Jimmy wished he'd thought of this before he'd jumped-
Jimmy twisted in mid air, just in time to avoid a plasma bolt through his head. He snapped the rifle around...and hesitated. The shot didn't feel right. Then, suddenly, time slowed. Everything clicked.
Jimmy fired. The plasma bolt zipped through the Xorquin's head.
And Jimmy floated through space, completely screwed.
├óÔé¼┼ôI...didn't feel a...pulse.├óÔé¼┬Ø
Jimmy blinked. ├óÔé¼┼ôWell...that's weird.├óÔé¼┬Ø
