@Brain Damage:
Whoops, checked for the wrong error. (SWTError inherits from Error, not from Exception...duh)
Should work now (r617)... please test again ;)

Ok, then do a search for "java.exe" on your whole system, and post the results. (Maybe you have x64 vista, and there is no system32 folder...)

It should at least find it, where you installed it.

Anyway:
Edit the start_win32_xxx.bat to point directly at your java\bin folder...
For example:
C:\Programs\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe -classpath..........

Hm,

I had those crashes when I disabled "Threaded optimization" in nvidia control panel. (Which you may have done for spring)

Another thing could be x64/x32 mixture.
From the screenshot it seems you are running x86 jvm.
Maybe you could try the x64 version?

Another idea would be to use the x64 libraries for jogl:
Click

And the x64 libraries for swt:
<I could not find any...search yourself on http://www.eclipse.org/swt/ >

Hope something helps...

It was the multi-thread optimization doohickey. I guess ill have to stop being lazy and give spring its own profile.
-Edit
Ehhh, running really slow. (says 60fps).
Could you post your gfx card settings so i can make SME its own profile and see if it helps? (9500gt 1gig of vram)

@overkill:
Disable Aero (3D desktop stuff). it made it slow for another vista user too.
I already included it into the readme under troubleshooting for next release.
(The bug with threaded optimization is listed there too since some time, btw)

@Otherside:
Did you update the SME version in between?
Anyway, copy&paste the contents of the small black window here please.

Small update: r621:
-added proper interpolation for up/down-scaling textures and patterns
-brush and pattern loading is now multithreaded (only GUI...)
-uncompressed quicksaves messed up textures/metalmap/etc... fixed (and faster now)
