Tim can open my psd files but the blending effects betwen layers arent supported.

I tend not to use much in the way of sfx though past the outer/inner glow and drop shadow though so it isnt that great a problem.

Yhe... I always thought they had they better site. (Or atleast it looks liek it belongs to a computer game, unlike this one....)

Anyway, my idea was not realy just for starwars... I was just looking for a large screeny of a cool unit at work and chose that. That could be a pic in rotation for all the otehr mods.

And it was more a sugestion of look and feel... Some of that isnt replicatable in HTML unless you keep to fixed width...

And how does this skinning work anyway? I havnt looked att his discussion in so long i think i missed somthing.

To much talk to little code aGorm. 8)
You didn't miss anything about theme's.
Look here for the code of the current theme.
And with a new theme you will have to change $site_theme = 'spring_blue'; in this file to the name of your theme. This as it's hard coded there for the moment.

If you have any questions just shoot. :-)

Hummm, I have now idea how SVN works... how do I get uplaod access to that? I actully might seriosly take a stab at this... something to do in lunch breaks anyway.

Asumadly if i changed that hard coded url, your site would suddenly use my theam not yours, so maybe you might wanna unhardcode that sooner rather than later...

do the thread dev thing, if everyone agrees, implement it and test, then create a patch and submit the patch to tim or tobi, then itll be applied.

Get tortoise svn, you can then just do a checkout in a folder, modify the folder, then right click on it and select, createpatch. Youc an update it to the latest svn via right click->update

http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ seems to be the best svn client for Windows but I'm using svn on Linux with the command line. Manual can be found here http://tortoisesvn.net/support
You will have to use https://taspring.clan-sy.com/svn/spring/trunk/Site/ as the checkout directory.

Upload (commit) access is given by Tobi after seeing a few useful patches from you hand. That means you have to send me the patches so I can commit them for you. Once it's clear you know your stuff I will bother Tobi about getting you commit access.

[EDIT]
And yes I'm planning to un-hardcode that theme thing in functions.php it wasn't a priorety as there is only one theme so far.

Another things is that if you really like to do this then I would also suggest you read up on the dev. and theme process here https://taspring.clan-sy.com/svn/spring ... tation.pdf

Ok, I shall take a look at what we (by we I mean I) can do.

Currently I've a shead load of work at work, no PC at home (only laptop... god i miss 1920 x 1200...) and a whole load of other stuff to sort, so dont expect anything quickly. Might take a week befor I get somthing done.

:::EDIT::: BTW... you do know that the theam and language (and for that matter the pods) display wrong in IE... which still has the largest user base and hence you should still try and get things to look best in. Even if you do hate it...

I know, IE is used by about 30% of the site visitors. 50% Firefox, 10% Opera. Anyway it will be fixed.

Sorry to butt in on the conversation guys. I have been a Spring player/forum lurker since day one when Spring was released and I have always thought this was the absolute best game I have ever played (aside from the desyncs and crashes  ), and I have always wanted to contribute. In the past I have thought I might be able to offer some graphic design work here and there, but never really saw an opportunity. Now I see this new site being developed and because I am a web designer/graphic artist I figure I could help out if my services are needed.

I notice there have been people saying the new site needs a new logo/banner, and Tim said he would rather work on other things, so I whipped up this banner in Photoshop last night.

This is a Complete Annihilation themed banner. I thought it might be nice to have a random mod-themed banner like this appear on each page to promote the mods. I can make a banner for each mod if the mod devs would like. I just started out with CA cause I thought CA's gallery had some great pics for me to use. Gundam also has some really great ones, so I can do it next if Smoth wants to send me some high res images.

I snatched CA pics from http://www.flickr.com/photos/8074991@N07/ and images of Smoth's skyboxes from http://spring.unknown-files.net/page/se ... sky%20box/. So credits go to them. I ripped the images up, masked out the main units, inserted them into various backgrounds, and made the Spring logo a bit shinier.

I work in high res so this will obviously need to be scaled down. Tim, what dimensions would you want this in if you decide to use it?

Also, if the people who took these screens have the original high res versions I might be able to use them to make wallpapers or something else like that.

If anybody likes certain pieces of this composition everything is in layers and easily editable, so I can send the logo, certain units, etc. if needed.

Massive resolution, 1.3 Meg (sorry dial-up users)

There isn't any uniform color theme to that... I'd be wary deciding on a final banner without really knowing what the final color pallet the site will use is (since the theme is going to be changing apparently) because the banner really needs to compliment the rest of the theme appropriately.

Gorm can prolly give the best crits.

From aq techinqual POV its very impresive, and you obviosly know how to use photoshop...
So I'll just be picky on other areas... :-)
The spring logo, whilest it looks cool behind all that, doesnt stand out as well because of it. Also, (this bit just personal preference) I think the red with bevel actully detracts from the logo as a whole, it looks so much better just solid, or maybe with a tiny bevel, or stroked.

Same goes for the text... its just lost, especialy as its blue on blue... :-)

But its totaly a good start. Id agree it needs a more uniform colour scheam to...

Its also highly TA orientated, there's nogundam/nanoblobz/kernel panic/EE

I agree it also detracts, too much stuff going on, I'd at least darken the background a bit to keep emphasis on the logo itself.

I also think that we should focus on the funtional aspects fo the site then we can worry about building a pretty site theme.

IMHO the current logo still owns all the others but probably the source isn't readily available to integrate it onto other banners. :|
