I have the same problem as HAARP, even after several apt-get update/upgrade.

I spoke too soon, I encounter two problems.

Firstly, dependacy problems with spring-ai-aii:

Code: Select all

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  spring-ai-aai: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6) but 2.3.6-0ubuntu20 is installed.
                 Depends: libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.0) but 1:4.0.3-1ubuntu5 is installed.
                 Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.0) but 4.0.3-1ubuntu5 is installed.
And the size mismatch problem for spring-scripts only.

There's still a problem with the Package files - they seem to be not in sync with the packages. ftp-server's next update cycle will start 21:00.

It seems horribly wasteful that everytime a map is updated the whole "spring-map-pack-X" package must be redownloaded. Maybe a better idea would be to add a spring-maps package that installed a command "update-spring-maps". The package could run that in postinst and that could rsync/ftp from some server(s). The user could then run this to update their maps at their leisure.

Your idea made it on the todo-list :-) .

I'm going to add a subdir to the debspring repository, containing all the map files, i can find and I'll add some logic to spring-setup that will download maps on demand.

If someone knows, how to Extract information about the map (size, # of players, maybe skill level necessary, ...), I could show those information on the map list which would make download decisions easier.

I know. Using unitsync.so (builds to omni/unitsync.so with "scons unitsync") and python (it has python bindings) you can extract certain information from the map, including minwind, maxwind, maxmetal, a minimap, tidal energy, size, description, etc.

PM if you're interested in this (didn't yet have time to make Documentation for it), I can send you one or two example python scripts.

Downloading / installling works for me. But as det said the ai file has problems...is the ai file required? there's some unexpected concatenation errors (i might have spelled that word right...) when i save+exit in spring and i end up getting a fatal error when i try to run spring.

Waiting till 21:00 :D gonna go eat dinner and see a movie will say how it is then.

What is the "ai file"? If you meant spring-ai-aai (the AAI-AI-Package) - this is not supposed to work with Spring != 0.71b1 which unfortunately has to be downloaded and installed manually (because AAI is incompatible with spring > 0.71b1).

Update for spring-scripts worked.

One last thing: Are the paths for maps even saved? Cause I've got to recreate them everytime :?

I as a linux newbie managed to install spring on dapper drake but when i start the game i get these error messages:

Code: Select all

I: Preparing workdir...
I: Done.
I: workdir is '/home/architeuthis/.springdir/localhost.localdomain:0.0'
I: type spring-setup to configure spring
spring is using data directory: /home/architeuthis/.springdir/localhost.localdomain:0.0
drmCommandWrite: -22
drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22 (exiting)
I: Spring exited with errors. Press any key to continue.

Does this mean there are problems with my videocard? (ati 9250)

Thank you anyway for making this :P

Yes. Debspring links the maps/paths folder in your workdir to /var/cache/spring/map-paths which is a host wide cache for the precalculates paths. This directory is shared between all users.

Type this command to confirm the presences of precalculated paths:

Code: Select all

ls -la /var/cache/spring/map-paths
Remember: Precalculated paths are a function of the map *and* the mod. If you try different mods on the same map, there has to be a precalculation again and again.

BTW: Developers are convinced that map path calculation is "fast enought". I would prefer some method to batch precalculate path costs But there's no such function in spring.

I think so. I know a few guys owning an ATI card. All of them had at least some trouble configuring it - it's more difficult than setting up nvidia.
Thank you anyway for making this :P
You're welcome :-)
