They so ruined the battle though....I mena there was a fight in the book...In the episode they just knocked tyrion cold before the fight started...
In the book he fights with his tribesman and the "mountain", the hounds big brother....
He does get knocked out but it happens during the fighting...

in the book Robb is not some sobbing whinney bitch after his fight as well, he doesnt give any moving speeches....

The execution weas well done indeed those who didnt read the book were probably pretty surprised since its not as commonm to kill of main chars in tv/cinema.

ep 9 was stellar, but wtf battle? battles are the best bit, 'knocked out at start, wake up afterward' cop out was very saddening

I hope i die before i get to the point where i start waiting on him to write another(an analogy to how over dramatic Robb was in the episode).

I wish they had at least shown Jaime getting captured. It would be in the woods and an ambush so it really wouldn't have taken much. Money was just too tight, I guess.

This was sort of a pilot season...
Maybe for season 2, now that they know its got an audiance, theyll have more dineros.

Spartacus seemed to have had a much bigger budget...

I liked the way the battle was done, i totally thought all the Stark army got wiped out till the end of that scene.

The thing is that the lannisters won that small battle but in the book it didnt say all that Strak force was lost..
It didnt seem from the book like that force was truly sent to its death...
They attacked in a surprise lost the battle and retreated...

Game Of Thrones is the most expensive premium cable show in current production, supposedly. There is a chance Camelot was more expensive, but we don't have the full numbers on either show yet. Anyway, the estimate for the Thrones budget is forty five million on the low end as mentioned by HBO prior to filming, and eighty million on the high end. I'm guessing it is probably closer to fifty five or so million all told. I don't know how much Spartacus: Blood On The Sand cost, but it felt somewhere around twenty million in terms of budget - there were some rather cheap stylized effects, they chose to take the camera off action here and there, and there were more human extras than computer generated efforts. I'm guessing that Game Of Thrones burnt through a little too much of the budget too soon - they had to create the opening, introduced a number of establishing locations in the first few episodes, and the Ayrie must have been expensive. Not to mention the absurd expense of providing armour, clothing and gear for many of the centerpiece characters - Eddard's leather armour alone is probably hand made and costs between one and four thousand.

I will note that Camelot is coming in at about seven million dollars an episode and while it has captured one million or so viewers, that just isn't comparable to Game Of Thrones with their 2.2 million at premier. In fact I would not be surprised if it was not renewed, due to the lack of critical acclaim, low viewership and excessive cost. The Borgias are also not doing as well as expected, though the budget hasn't been fully disclosed - viewership is under a million, while each episode is estimated around four million in cost. That said, the second season of The Borgias should be a lot cheaper, as all the set pieces are built and they require little to no computer graphics. Besides, the show is a good bet for the award season.

There are over seven hundred actors involved in Game Of Thrones, but we know quite a few won't be making a reappearance next season. :regret:

Just for perspective, Rome supposedly cost 8.7 million an episode. The first season of The Tudors was apparently around 3.5 million an episode - I find that odd because the Tudors seems to be more modest, I'm not sure where most of that money went.

EDIT: I have been watching Game Of Thrones, it has given me some hope both for television and for modern novels. I haven't been commenting much on the details, of course. There is always going to be some change when you adapt a work from one medium to another, I don't really like the way Cersei is set up but I don't mind Littlefinger. The change to Renly honestly makes the world a little more convincing on a social level.

Yeah... In the book, that scene showed Tyrion doesn't afraid of anything. Didn't he impale a horse with his helmet and fight a knight 1v1 or something? Here he just gets knocked out by his own mercenaries. Wtf?
Gota wrote:Also, they changed Shae's character completely...
For the better imo. Shae just lacked character in the book.

Next episode should be very intresting. More specifically how the next Dothraki scenes are filmed. Fine, they can replace wolves with dogs, but if they screw this up...

Im guessing the multiple semi famous actors are a big chunk of the budget.

I liked Rome and thought it looked really nice. The money seemed like it was pretty well spent even though the production of these shows in general always looks expensive to me.

Nice season finale. I'm trying to write without spoiling...

Nice end scene, though kind of predictable (not the exact scene, but the "birth"). You cannot talk the hole time in a RPG of some powerfull magic items without at some point activating them. It's nice, that the owner of the items lost its army before, so it doesn't lead to auto-victory (I guess... don't know the books...). Let's see how she rebuilds her base :)
