Would you rather have awesome looking terrain sacraficing filesize, or crappy looking terrain while making filesize go way down?

I play quake3 with texturing turned off...

I like good looking terrain. Hard drives are getting cheaper and bigger anyways...

You're all working under the assumption that visual quality is proportionnal to filesize. This is what I disagree with. Maps can be good looking AND small filesize.

Well in that case, put up or shut up.

I think what's most important is a good image on the UF maps page. If your map has a close up picture of a Stumpy without even any of the map in the background, I'm not likely to download it. If it looks unnecessarily complex and seems like it would play badly, I'm not likely to download it. If it looks playable from the UF image, I'll probably download it no matter how pretty it looks. I don't really care about the filesize.

I'd rather you took the time to take a good picture that shows off the important gameplay features of the map to show it off on UF. If it looks pretty ingame too that's a bonus.

BTW a little statistic for you guys. I ran across this by accident while doing file admin maintenance stuff. I was actually quite shocked considering I didn't even make a public release of this map because of the file size...
