SMF uses 1024x1024 tiles. You can't replace it with variable-density small tiles without a big hit, and you can't increase the resolution without a different big hit. SM3 has its own entirely different big hit with the layering.
Re: SM3 (split from Mesh Deformation, Skeletal Animation, ...)
What are the names of some great animation computer programs? I want to know what kind of animation programs the big comanies use. Like for example what they used to make the short clips of Final Fantasy XII, or the animation sequences that are used in many movies. If this is not possible, how about the best or relatively good animation computer programs available in the market.

Re: SM3 (split from Mesh Deformation, Skeletal Animation, ...)
Why would you ask this in this topic?
To answer your question:
That stuff isn't really done in an "animation software" like Maya, 3D Studio Max, Softimage or Lightwave. Those and the respective Plug-Ins for doing nice particle effects / explosions. While Lightwave has a quite moderate price all off the things are very expensive...
If you're on a budget you should go for the free and still very good Blender which also offers everything you need from modelling over texturing up to animation and rendering...
