A remake of a older map I've done

Post by genblood »

I've made some changes to a old map I did last year. I redid the
texture map, metal map and a few other things too. I'm calling it
Metal-Isles-Redux. I fixed the metal that was missing from the
water. I also, reduced the mex radius, added some wind not much
and the metal output is around 3.1 for level 1 mexs. The water color
is a rusty brown ... So, here are some screenies .... Before you
post comments saying it not that sharp ... thats the way I wanted
it to look....

I was thinking about releasing it, but I'm not sure

A blue sky????!?!?!?!?

The colour oft he water is red, yet ti looks odd because you can See bits of blue.

Red dark sky, metal isles redux is a dark rusty map if you look at it from top down on the land. The whole thing should fit together, a colour scheme background everything should compliment each other.

It all just looks out of place

is there a good detail tex for metal maps or is it best just not to use one?

Depends on how good your base texture is. If your base tex is sharp you probably want to ditch it altogether. If your base tex is more of a generic pattern then the detail tex can add some depth.

I'd think most metal maps would be best without it.

so a simplish metallic pattern detailtex wouldn't do the business?

at the moment it looks a lot more blue than green. Maybe it ought to be more green than blue or something like that. Just my 2 cents.

I'll redue the water on the texture to reflect more green.

To get a blueish green sea on a planet with a red sky and rusty metalic terrain one would need trillions of gallons of bluegreen paint dumped into the water.

water is most commonly the colour reflected by the sky, I said it to IceXuick and he took notice but it seems only he took notice.

In future decide on a colour scheme. Choose 2 main similar colours, such as red + orange, then decide on a highlighting colour, say blue, and use mostly red and orange with highlights of blue. Of course you'll need a colour wheel.

Here you seem to ahve used 3 complimentary colours that dont compliment.
