.:New Map:. Deserted Gully (retextured)

Post by Forboding Angel »

Made for a 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2, but supports up to 5 vs 5's very well.

Download link:
It's in the map list
http://fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=2720

The middle has 3 geo's but no metal. 1 geo on top and bottom.

Have fun!

Screenies: (retextured now)

it looks like a fun map to play on :)

but, i think the trees look a bit out of place, also i couldn't get them on fire, and i'm fairly sure there is somekind of tdf tag for that..

lol

What's a metal map? ;p

Edit: Trees are not flammable for a reason. NOiZE, you should know this already from playing canyons ;p

Burnrate in spring is determined by a random number. It is not based on max damage of the tree. When a huge clump of trees goes up and disappears in 5 seconds, it looks really silly. BTW, try ctrl d'ing a comm next to a group of them. You will understand why I made them non flammable :D

ya, smoth showed me how. The problem is that I don't have any point of reference. Tonight I think I'mma just kinda play around with the scales and see if I can just get lucky.

I was thinking that a universal upscale of 2.5 might work, but I dunno.

OOOOOOO ss you meant for me to post my metal map lol

I thought you meant, "will you make a metal map?" lol.

Sure, will post it when I get home. Actually if you look closely on the first picture you can see the meal spots and geo's.

Just a screenshot of the metalmap in game would be fine, I just want to be able to analize a bit of the play balance and stratigies.

well in real life, cactuses don't really get over 8 feet tall, and if smoths scale was right, I stretched them a little, and the bigger ones get to about 10-12 feet...

they should be "to scale"

they will only be about half the height of a peewee

I have seen some cactus that I believe were 20-30ft tall... maybe I was just young.

Who said this was earth? TA Battles wrecked a whole galaxy, so this could be on a planet with 100m high cactuses. Your planet, your scale.

The cactuses weren't requested.. and well I provided them on my own accord as I was using them to learn the 3D painting program I'm trying...

I just attempted to use the earth standard sizes... so I started to make some... and offered to let Forboding Angel use them on his map.... excited to see something of mine on a map....

I inquired why they weren't on the map, because frankly... I haven't seen ANYTHING of mine on a map yet, still, and I was worried MYSELF if they were too small.... but when he said:
well, the cacti look as tho they are only 2 feet high
I was worried I screwed up and scaled them wrong.. So I explained why and how tall they are supposed to be, and I was corrected...

I intended on them being half the height of a peewee, and thats what he meant... but me taking the 2 feet literally, I thought they were like literally dots on the map, 1 pixel high and all... , then I understood that he was exaggerating..

if a mapper wishes to change any of my models to suit their map better, they are welcome to.... and more power to them....

Whatever, I'm just babbling now....

and to your comment, if this is an alien world, who says their plants are all only 2 feet tall?

Had a 3vs3 game on this yesterday. Frankly, movement is too restricted at the middle. Both of us had a load of AA up, tons of Doomsday Machines and Berthas.. the game just dragged on waaay too much. You need to free up movement at the middle and have less choke points. This just feels like another Great Divide clone.

kbots have a total of 4 ways to get over the hills. 2 on the right (one on the right is blocked by trees...) and 2 on the left.

Not to mention that the middle is quite large... I released a new version last night btw, fixed the wind... It was horrible before. It's prolly too good now (same as canyons), but meh.
