I will be changing the buttons, I just threw them in for the screen shot so you could see where they are being put.

What do you think if I use the logo and title from the first pic but as a plain colour watermark?

Btw the little spring thingy in the corner next to the version number is a link to the taspring website.

To any of you that don't like the the skin you can allways download the the cource code change the skin to what you want and compile.....*thinks to self - maybe I could get SP to load different skins.*

I agree wit HanSolo, I think it looks well cool and brings back the old TA feelings to see the frontpage in that style. Way to go !

its good to mention that in general bad GUIs really keep quite some players away, therefore for the further increase of spring comunity new GUIs are in need here (including lobby GUI).

The "new GUI" thing is a known feature request...
Go and find us some developers to work on it!
Or if people really like to have it.. set up a fund raiser so a developer can be hired to implement it.

Having the text on the buttons all the same size would be good, but otherwise its looking nice.

Looking better and better.

It is true, lack of a nice GUI really does keep people away. I honestly think SpringSP should be shipped with the main download package, it would really help someone who is just getting started. In my case, I downloaded the full game, but it took me a while to make sense of how to start a single player game, though the online documentation helped some. The list of scripts is totally confusing to a brand new player. And then figuring out how to run a single player game against an AI that would actually fight back took even longer...

Regardless, I'm so pumped I found TA Spring, what an awesome effort. I think I just found something to keep me busy until Supreme Commander comes out.

You dont object to me continually packaging NTAI with Spring SP and making shortcuts in startmenu/desktop to it? Saves me having to explain howto get it working or howto use it offline

Please let me know if this version fixes the problems loading maps.

I don't mind what you do with SP as long as it is useful. :-)
Edit: Just make sure that installer does not overwrite newer versions of SP with older ones in the install package. I tested and the NTAI XE3 installer just overwrote SP v0.5b1 with SP v0.4.1.

with this new face SpringSp is kicking ass :-) :-) , i wonder if it shouldnt run fullscreen ....
as for the errors they are still there :P , not that they bother me at all :-) .
its looking very good now , a lot a new features , and those load bars :-) .
If you get maximized going, implement a minimap on it and fix the errors, itll be perfect!!!
oh btw, when you launc TASClient shouldnt it close SpringSp ?

Hmm :x  . If you don't mind Chocapic could you send me an email with your archivecache.txt attached. I should be able to load it and see what is causing the error then fix it.

The problem with making SP fullscreen is that I can't just strech the screen to any size, not without rewriting most of the frontend. I can add a fullscreen background and have the normal screen centered in the middle of it, that would sort of be fullscreen  .

Try adding a version nubmer to the end in future, and I'll do so in my installers so that they dont overwrite ^^

Sorry for taking so long(very busy lately), here's version 0.5 beta2

http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=2590

I added a fullscreen background mode which is toggled by pressing F4, started animating the buttons and I got SP working even with Chocapic's archivecache :-) . Please let me know if there are still errors.

Gah, i am teh late!

Anyway, i made a semi proof of concept GUI background based on Neuralize's original work (which is much better than current Spring logo IMHO, but meh :P):
