Not enough money!

If GPG couldn't afford the TA license with their $10 000 000 SupCom budget, how could Uber with a tenth?

With the supcom franchise and with a single game made 16 years ago how much can the TA name be worth...

I googled you this:

ATARI INC.

Total Annihilation: $1 million to $3 million
So, yep, as much as the whole PA budget.

Neither PA or Supcom are anything close to a TA2.

How about: of all commercial games, PA and SupCom are the closest ones to TA?

Should you choose to disagree, then you shall list other games that are closer to TA than PA and SupCom are.

I'm pretty excited to see it so openly. What I see is a bunch of devs making an already funded game the way they basically said they were going to make it. Yes it might seem they are hyping it a little but I see that as excitement about what they are doing. If they don't get excited about it, who should.

FTFY: PA is not. That doesn't make PA a bad game, PA'S hype based design makes it highly likely IMO that it will be a bad game. You are getting Molyneux'd.

Why is there hype around PA and no hype around Spring, what makes PA get money out of a kick starter, and spring doesnt even get a couple devs or players. Obviously there is a lot of people interested in TA based games.

So why, and lets not get into the fact, hey its hard to install spring and stuff, there are other games like 0AD where i had to compile the game to play it......, and many other people did, they do have an instaler now but that doesnt remove the fact if a person is interested they will get over the instalation problems.

Just to spice the discussion, a couple reasons i would play PA instead of spring.

- Solid multiplayer experience, go in find players and have a blast at any time 1v1, 2v2s, 4v4s etc.
- Probably the full Macro gameplay migth still be fun, Nota fan here, but i didnt enjoyed supcom seires that mutch.

How about timing?
Every game has a multiplayer life span. The period of time that it is played by players online.
It all starts with marketing before the game is released.
A buzz is formed and the first sparks of a community start gathering around the videos/images/forum of the game.
Why do people get excited?Because thye are promised something new.
The devs present a certain vision of how the game will be wich is novel or an interesting rehash of an old idea.

The game is released and than played for a few years(if the game is really nice).
Eventually it dies out as it's mechanics become outdated or the players who are interested in that sort of games are bored of the game and saturated by it.

Spring has seen it's prime already.
To revive it, so to speak, you would have to offer a reinvention..
A resurrection..
A big update in gfx and polish..
Something you can show to people that would look great and signify that there is something new in the works.

the failure might have been during spring's peak, when the game was gathering players very fast..
If it would have expanded faster and better, with more devs and better and faster work on the engine and games it might have climbed the popularity ladder quicker.
It is also possible it failed from the start becasue it was developed as a hobby and was just not good enough or focused enough on the right thing.
Now to revive spring It would need a serious jolt and influx of developers who mean business.

So maybe TA:K was the TA2, then this will be TA3. Or if you count SupCom then it will be TA4, same thing.
youtube comments on PA videos all compare it to SupCom and TA:
-After Supreme Commander, TOTAL ANNIHILATION IS BACK
-Total Annihilation was fantastic, but this is beyond that. Tumbs up!!!
-Planetary Annihilation is being made by the same people who made Total Annihilation (and Supreme Commander), and will play roughly the same way, except you can crash planets into each other.

This is actualy a great point, but dont you think the diference between a great RTS and a generic one, is the fact a great RTS still gets played over and over even with small permutations and diferences, and a generic one disapears after a couple years it launched. I mean TA is still a godlike neverending RTS, that still inspires people to make games based off it.
