Re: 27" IPS monitor for ~350$ ?
Can you summarise that please? Other than being 2560x1440 what's the big deal?

ips panels are usually more expensive. They are good for any color critical work because they have greater color depth.

I never heard of those brands, so I did bit of lookup.

The guy in the video even did the O'reilly's impression: "Do it LIVE!"
It's decent price for its specs, but it is bit of a gamble since overseas customers don't get customer or technical support.
I would just stick with LG IPS or Samsung PLS which supposedly is better than IPS.

Summary:
2560×1440 native.
8 bit IPS
They all house an LG IPS LCD panel, model LM270WQ1. This model is the same as the Dell 27'', and similar to that being used in the iMac (LM270WQ2, same line, different bin).

I would add that if you have gripes about dead/stuck pixels, its best to shop inland and brand name, as the review does mention that most people get a few. It seems like a tradeoff between price and bad pixels, if you are ok with a few then its a good deal.

for me it would be to be able to fit an entire 1080 image on the screen while having tools visible, great for artwork / game development stuffDas Bruce wrote:Can you summarise that please? Other than being 2560x1440 what's the big deal?
also since the vertical resolution is 1440, you can make a very nice SLI setup with two 720 monitors on either side rotated 90 degrees.
(so: big deal for me, but for others, maybe not so much.)
certainly i would buy one if i could get warantee coverage here, $350 is still a fair amount to throw away on a production of somewhat questionable quality (if i could get return/replace coverage i would grab one in a second)
great to see these coming down in price though.

There was a long discussion over here. Being able to overclock to 120Hz refresh rate is a big plus for some people.
