Well, even that would require a level of coding that is likely beyond my abilities at this point. I'm more saying the GUI needs to be brought to a level of functionality.
Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
how much MORE functional does it NEED to be?

what more does the gui need?
From what I can tell it's pretty much complete.

I agree with the last 2 posts. I really can't see any problems with the svn at all.
Yeah the heavier walkers aren't there, but they can always come later.

Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
Really? Last time I played it there were some pretty nasty bugs (see my posts earlier in this thread). I'll find a comp to boot it up with (spring won't run on this borrowed laptop). Has anyone tried to have a game on it?
Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
bug does not mean refactor the entire thing, add features which will introduce new bugs.
Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
Sorry for being such a pain again, but what happend?
Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
Game development takes years even from paid professionals. Also usually the last 20% takes 80% of the worktime so near the end the work amount seems increasing and progress slows down.
I agree it should not be released before it is good enough, but what should be done is set a release date so developers and players can mentally adjust for it. The date could be a few months or a year from now.
My GUI can be ready in few weeks but currently I have a crappy Linux installation and need to install Windows or just work it out. If I will get my development environment good enoguh I could fix nearly all Lua, scripts and make installer too.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

But work IS being done though, right?

A little here and there. I need to buy a new laptop so that I can run spring properly again.
Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
Would it be okay for a beginner like me to help? I don't want to be a pain; then again, I want this project to go forward and I would like to gain some ground in the software dev world.
You listed on the first posting in this thread about final installer/boot screen development. I might be willing to do that for the beta release.
Also, if you'll send me stuff for other things that need to be done, I might be willing to learn how to do it (by looking on the help forums of spring).
I guess I have two questions, then: can a beginner help? And, how do I sign up?

So, no.Warlord Zsinj wrote:A little here and there. I need to buy a new laptop so that I can run spring properly again.

I did some further thinking today, and I decided that I would NOT like to help at this time.
However, I still would like to know the answers to my two questions, as there may be others like me who would like to know the answers to these questions.

There certainly are (bed) bugs in the human endurance system. I can tell, having suffered under those very same.

Re: Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help.
We have had a couple of beginners offer help. Basically, we'd love to bring you aboard - but you're going to have to be responsible for your own learning. We can point you in the right direction and give you some tips, but generally given the amount of work remaining it would be quicker to just do the work than teach someone to do it.
Don't let me discourage you, though. Most of us here are self-taught and it's not that hard to pick up.

It is hard to start work at imperial winter, as there is afaik no public repository or something similar

Imo you should release this as a BETA, and thus get user feedback and community effort running.
Isn't it injustice for all all your fans and the participators of your project to let the game hanging like this? Isn't the goal afterall to get your game played?

There is now a repository, but it is not public. I'm sure that anyone known to be capable and trustworthy will be granted access.abma wrote:It is hard to start work at imperial winter, as there is afaik no public repository or something similar
(I've never thought about leaking it, honest

By the way, when the beta is released, what do you plan to do then? I mean, will work continue, or is there so little left that you will be able to release a final version soon after the beta.
In other words, is this a game that will improve even after its initial release?
