Granted I was sick since sunday morning till late this morning and am eating a steady diet of water and soda crackers to keep the nausea down... so eating copious quantities of pie would have been out of the question anyway. But I'm starting to worry I may be losing my inner geek.
(for those who never were (or had friends) in a Math Society, Pi day celebrates Pi on March 14th... typically celebrated by math majors by eating pie (and other round things, like pancakes) and digits of Pi reciting competitions.)
I completely forgot it was Pi day!

I always was annoyed that full circle = 2 pi instead of one, and how 2pi was appeared so much more often than pi alone, but that video and associated website convinced me. I hope Tau will catch on!

While I agree that 2¤Ç is more common in applied math and therefore a symbol like ¤ä representing this constant is arguably more useful... it's not nearly as tasty.bobthedinosaur wrote:well there is this, but it is not today:

Going in orders that are logical is too similar to the metric system, which is a socialist/communist system of thinking and on a slippery slope in to the dark age.

It's hilarious how many Americans still hear "communist" when you say "socialist" and hear "insidious fascist dictatorship" when you say "communist"...bobthedinosaur wrote:Going in orders that are logical is too similar to the metric system, which is a socialist/communist system of thinking and on a slippery slope in to the dark age.
My favourite example is the whole heal-care thing... the best argument against public health care I've heard was: "Would YOU Trust the American Government with your health?" ... but that was in a cold-war era propaganda film I saw a few years back and can't find anymore... anyone know where I can find it again?
Sorry, I'm not really anti-American, it's just hard to be level minded when pretty much everyone I interact with is either a US Republican or Canadian Liberal... I feel like I have to argue against EVERYTHING EVERYONE SAYS.
Also, can this thread be about pi again now? Or pie... or Pancakes... or even Regular cakes for that matter...
