Re: TRIAD
Evolution RTS: 1 faction, 3.5 yrs (or so)
Modeling is the easy part. Next is texturing them, and actually getting them into spring via upspring, script and unitdef...
Unfortunately this crap takes time.

Re: TRIAD
mmm took us about 1.5 years though for the current faction; the additional 2 years is probably split between the old models (prior to massive overhaul) and then more recently development of 2nd faction
yay? nay? idk

Re: TRIAD
Yessir, you are correct. Also, for what it's worth, I spent the vast majority of that time working on features for the game, implementing stuff, adding crap, begging smoth and carrepairer to help me, etc., not units.

It'll take a little while before the DNS propagates.
Re: TRIAD
Thanks! I'm not sure if we'll use one of them as our main domains, we'll see.MidKnight wrote:Done.kalda341 wrote:Why not? Point it to http://www.triad.netne.net if you can be bothered.MidKnight wrote:This looks neat! Best of luck!

kalda341 wrote:Even though they're simple, they automap badly. I find it's better to just spend that extra time on most models.Karl wrote:most of your model looks quite simple
you can use auto-uvmapping to reduce time at uv-mapping it
^^ this. Automap is the spawn of CT and satan (course in CT it works because of what ct is and is supposed to be).
Re: TRIAD
www.triadrts.tk has been updated. It now has the new storyline, more models (on the forum) and several faction bios.
Re: TRIAD
hmmm the whole godliness is kind of troublesome if not problematic. After all you'd think with a new religious doctrine and godly intervention that a horrifically corrupt nonchristian and evil organisation like the Vatican might be struck down by Gods fury in favour of a more forgiving and compassionate organisation newly founded?
Assuming the presence of God as indicated in the storylines initial premise, we must assume God is more intelligent or knowing than a transcendant being/singularity, and as such those actions are not befitting of a transcendant, and thus nonfitting of a God.
Behold your magic glue plot mechanism in all its glory!
Things to beware of:
A tech obsessed faction leaves earth and discovers the scourge. The scourge parisitize them resulting in a blend of the two, headed for earth. Earth panics and a new xenophobic government is installed with prominent religious figures at its helm. Earth defends itself as the scourge lays siege, and a certain religious order with military forces decides to push outwards.
This gives yout eh forces under Oath, the alien hive mind menace, and it then gives you a vast array of potential plot lines and tools, not to mention the Standard Earth Faction should you want another race, not to mention survivors of the original high tech spacers to meet the scourge

- God cleansed the world of sin and pollution yet he failed to notice the aliens buried under the ground, plot hole?
- Your use of the Vatican and Pope indicate if not indirectly that Catholocism is the true faith. Treading on thin ice already!

This is precisely the sort of thing we need help with, AF.AF wrote:hmmm the whole godliness is kind of troublesome if not problematic. The 'Vatican' is merely a name, we also toyed with the idea of 'The Theocracy'. The premise is kind of that it's centuries in the future, with massive technological leaps and a semi-apocalyptic event occuring (heavy lack of resources etc.). This would undoubtedly change the human psyche, at least on a spiritual plane.
So living all of these years in an almost literally Godless wastleand, a massive drop in faith & belief would occur, and faith and belief of humanity are in our eyes God's energy source. So God is progressively weakening as the last pious people fall victim to their own wastleand. With God's return, He is not only saving the human race, but saving Himself. However, His power is almost fully depleted as He does this, requiring time for the human race to regain their faith before He can be omnipotent again.
OK, God overlooking the Hivemind is something I hoped we wouldn't come to, because we were hoping it to be a surprise in the campaign, our big twist as it were. We were going to have it so that it is revealed that the Hivemind are actually controlled by the Devil. Hence evil still being present on the Earth (or at least under it). We may be taking a risk with that, but it was the only thing our old head writer suggested that we liked, so we went with it. Also gives us somewhere to go with the campaign.
The whole Vatican/Pope/Crusader/Catholicism thing is definitely a problem. Most, if not all, of our writing team were raised in not Christian, but at least a modern Western style (so uncultured, I know). Our head writer was planning to correspond with theologians regarding the balancing of religions within the faction. I believe he is planning to do this as soon as possible. Nevertheless, we are aware of this indiscretion and we hope to fix it in any way we can. We're not out to make a religious statement, or argue theology.
I like AF's alternate plot too. It is definitely something we'll consider. I myself like the xenophobic government and the tech-obsessed spacers.
(NOTE: None of our writing team are particularly religious, but our head writer is fascinated with the Crusades and Inquisitions etc. We're not trying to break new ground theologically, we're just taking an interesting part of history and theology and using it as a "magic glue plot mechanism" as AF said. We only capitalise He when referring to God out of respect.)
Re: TRIAD
We did, but that was mostly for testing, and the models were crap, the uv mapping was worse. None of the units were balanced. We are just about to uv map our technologist structures ( http://triad.netne.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=17 ) and get some of them into the game.oksnoop2 wrote:Do you guys have anything in game yet?
