Epicly long story really short, he got tired of dealing with the assholes here.
Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base

Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
Expand and Exterminate, a now defunct mod inspired by Earth2150.
Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
hum, never heard of it, just found thread but link to dwl is dead, who haz ?
Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
Best Part of it was the Artillery, and the ships, and the hubbuilding system, and the spideranimations of the robots- well it basically was built of best parts, and the best part of spring players ignored it, and unlike smoth, Fanger hated us for every minute not spended on his beloved & ignored his masterpiece. And that with some reason.
But pigs wouldnt fly, his mod didnt end in Annhilation, and thats it.
If u make a mod kids, dont expect the crowd to be waiting - and for heaven sake, put a A to the End of the name, otherwise the #main crowd will go through the roof.

Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
make some high quality youtube videos, huge amount of people login to youtube everyday if you can get a video on the front page more players will come,
you can buy youtube views if anyone wants to invest?
also a gui would be good drop the lobbys and have a front end that you start like any other game, have everything inside would be alot more user friendly
maybe something like trackmania

I miss EE too.

I did that for KP. And yet, KP didn't instantly get as popular as starcraft.dcore221 wrote:make some high quality youtube videos, huge amount of people login to youtube everyday

Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
What made EE so good then?

you dare ask?JohannesH wrote:What made EE so good then?

For me, at a certain point,it was a combination of several things.
The combination of the models, textures, sizes and sounds was very nice for some reason.
It was also pretty simplistic cause units were 3 techs with very similar units in all three.
A t2 unit would basically be a stronger version of an equivalent T1 unit.
At a certain point hubs were added(there were some reasons to do it but it just made the game different, not better) and the scale changed which made it harder to look at, harder to play and overall the game lost its feel despite the fact the models were of higher technical quality.
Aliens were also added, I didnt like them.
Some players left and it basically went downhill.
At its first "generation" it had a pretty decent following.
Many more units were added like Zwzwg writes in the post after mine but the grand design scheme, for me and for some others, was already ruined.
At its final form with the aliens and the tiny units it didn't get played much and switched hands.

Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
It had an ample selection of units: Three factions x three tech levels x land/sea/air. Plus some huge experimentals. So it felt like a complete RTS, complete as a SupCom-like, not complete as a C&C-like.
The gameplay was solid and intuitive. Medium units, arty units, nimble units, performed as expected, and completed each others. Other Spring mods are full of units where the description doesn't match the intented role, of units that are nothing but noobtraps, and of units you get no clue what they're for. There was none of this in EE. Units role were straightforward.
It was not reusing any TA unit, only brand new models (or model warped beyond recognition), which not only made it feel fresh, but also made it easier to learn, since the mind wasn't parasited by having seen the same models with widly different stats and role in fifty other mods in the last ten year.

Im dont try to sound superstitious, but do you think, if you dont try to infringe TA Content, that the curse of spring comes down upon your mod?
If so, do hidden ta-original files&folders count as protective talismans?

Re: An unethical idea to increase Spring's player base
i actually played E&E alot with bots be4 i started playing spring online....great mod
could someone plz fix E&E.......(and maybe set up a auto-host)
also, i don't think that using IP has anything 2 do with popularity.... people play mods that are already being played by others, it is like a self sustaining circle.....if we banned BA 4 like a week or 2 i can see a few other mods gaining a bit more popularity(but i have my doubts)(also there are sooooooooooo many *A mods that know one even knows about)
also, vids can actually be very effective....but people need 2 see them...(someone put a spring vid as a response 2 a startcraft2 vid/put starcraft tags)
