How to get C&C-Generals Fanbois into other Titles
I wanted them for a LAN to try something new, but they wont even try. So what to do? I really tried to talk them into a round of SinsofaSolar Empire, but they are so anti-scifi, so anti-fantasy, its basicall that game or nothing, i could cry. Same goes for shooters: VietName-Shooters, WW2 Shooters, ModernWarfare-Shooters, but never SciFi, never Fantasy (DMofMM)
I just need some tip how to get a conservative human beeing to try out something new..

I bought Sins of a Solar Empire at Christmas for the full price, played it for about 120 seconds and haven't played it since.

Tell them spring is THE competitive game of the future and all the koreans allready play it. (Some of them died playing in internet cafees )

If we knew that the world would be very different, right?PicassoCT wrote:

Re: How to get C&C-Generals Fanbois into other Titles
maybe the other games suck for lan play?
i hate it when when some guy goes "ololol everybody install this supercool rts its SO fun, only 3 CDs!" and then its about researching a million different things for 2 hours and the battles consist of 4 tanks each side or something.
"Why do you not like it, the campain was SO epic!" omg.
c&c zero hour actually is a nice lan rts.
for example i do not like space rts like homeworld because there is no real map, the ships fly around on their own so much so no fun micro and its hard to understand what weapon is good against what.
so they probally do not like the gameplay and not the setting.
maybe try emperor - battle for dune. or the warhammer40k games, if you can live with the squadsystem.

Or Company of Heroes, World in Conflict or Spring 1944 if they insist on something reality-based.

farcry 1 assault mode is THE best best lan fps for 4v4-6v6, you cant introduce it with 100% assurance they will like it

thx for the tips, will try some. But the argument with the welldisguised "2 lazy 2 learn" is what comes to mind. Makes you wonder why people play games, when they expect every game they buy should be like the games bought before + a graphics update.
I gave actually up on trying to convince them to spring because of the advantage multiplying factor the spring UI has. If you dont have to learn all the stuff, you can easily crush every living beeing that was trained on normal rts games. Even when you hold back, take some delay, and start-disadvantages and only use one hand, you can beat noobs. Sorry, it is that strong.

hehe no.But the argument with the welldisguised "2 lazy 2 learn" is what comes to mind.
but some games just do not work in multiplayer, no matter how cool the sp is. but yes, on a lan i would be too lazy to setup and to learn for example spring if it was new to me.

Seems not worth it for only lan games as oppose to playing it online as well.knorke wrote:hehe no.But the argument with the welldisguised "2 lazy 2 learn" is what comes to mind.

Whats so special in spring UI to do that? If youre good at RTS games in general you can learn to beat 90% of spring players with quite short practice.PicassoCT wrote:I gave actually up on trying to convince them to spring because of the advantage multiplying factor the spring UI has. Re: How to get C&C-Generals Fanbois into other Titles
so you have to let them learn a game before the LAN? How to convince them when not even hands on? Or do i need awesome demoreel as screensaver to convince them off new games?
Re: How to get C&C-Generals Fanbois into other Titles
if you have to go around and explain the game it probally sucks for lan play. i mean lan=lan party where you play for a few days, not like if you have a network with some computers at home or something.
just think about setting up the f11 menu on each pc etc.
be lucky on your lans some people at least play zero hour, not many people really play rts..
or racing games where you need more skill than "push forward"

Advice: Could be worser. That sums it up.
God damn it, i know i should, i once brought them to play Icewind Dale in LAN and the enjoyed it after learning. I just wished i could convince them that Sins of Spring is actually Generals in Disguise
