What are my options for unit animations at this time?

Post by Caydr »

It was like 2006 the last time I needed to animate a new complex unit from scratch, and even then I just pretty much either copied one from OTA that fit the bill or begged Archangel to do it.

Since my skill set is expanding into stuff like texture creation, audio creation, UV mapping, (frikkin sweet) CGI animation, etc, I figure, why not add this to the list add this to the list and learn how to create Spring unit animations.

Aha, but I have no idea what my options are. Do we support any standard formats, etc? If there are new formats, are there any tutorials, or am I stuck with COB still? New workflow examples? Etc? I have lots to do and I love to learn, but I need a place to start.

Any way to f/e animate in Max and export that to lua? Any good threads on lua and its advantages/disadvantages vs cob?

I'm a total newb at both, but at least with cob I'm a trained newb. If there's no big advantages I'm not sure I want to switch to lua just to be trendy. CA whores... I mean, .... CA whores.

So basically, it's COB except better. Not huge improvements, but very nice ones to have nevertheless.

lua is kind of nice actually because you can have it more easily interact with gadgets and stuff like better dynamic walking anims is possible.
