Olympics
i know im not the only one watching them... or do i?
that georgian luge accident... what a shame.
first medal has gone to the swiss for ski jumping! pretty nice job.
and of course, we cant have olympics without people tripping balls and causing trouble... sweet riot/protest that left two police officers injured, go canada!
how does sweden have so many medals in the alltime tally? and so many attractive women? cheaters.
anyone with predictions or athletes they would like to see do well? i can think of ones that i specifically want to fail... but we'll see.

Re: Olympics
I live in Canada, in theory I should have a vested interest... I even watched a bunch of the world's and prelims stuff... haven't watched a single newscast or event since they started however.
Re: Olympics
Meh, I'll wait for the movie.

Re: Olympics
winter olympics were always so boring -,-
i wish kaiser could ski naked instead of bode miller, it would be more interesting

Re: Olympics
I think it would be cool if the athletes' routines were more creative. I know that they have certain criteria to follow for judging purposes, but that stuff sometimes makes the sports not as interesting as they could be. For instance, if figure skating could be more theatrical like on the movie, "Blades of Glory" or if free running had more open judging criteria, they would be much more fun to watch. Free running techniques can get very personalized and unique or just very efficient and I'm sure that some of the styles probably just look kind of sloppy.
Re: Olympics
Moguls kinda bugs me because of the judging - the aspect that is worth the most score is the aspect that nobody watching gives a crap about - how good their knees look going down the hill. We want to see daring jumps and fast runs, but their speed is tempered by the need to look perfect, and they can't do daring jumps because a slightly-rough landing will rob them of their score and they only get one run.
So as a result, we get tightwads twisting down the mountain and doing the same damned 180-spin and a backflip on the two jumps.
Still, mad props to Bilodo for bringing Canada our first home-team gold.
Oh, and Snoboard Cross should've had way more coverage - dead-heat sports are so much fun to watch.

Re: Olympics
the turns you talk about that people dont look at, are the hardest thing to keep consitent at a high speed.
Infact when you get into the sport you actually look at their head level and wether they move alot when they hit the turns.
The twists and jumps are only a bonus.

mah girl jenn won silver! marry me! somebody shoop something i can fap to...
the whole problem with the artistically judged events, especially the ones like figure skating, is that they use a legacy style of judging determined many, many years ago that have only seen slight changes over a long period.
the judging in figure skating is crooked as shit, and in a way, its good that what they can do is limited; because quite frankly with a bigger bag of tricks to choose from, it would be a lot more difficult to pinpoint "okay this judge is full of shit". from the spectators point of view... yeah, that would be awesome... the judging would have to change a lot to allow it though.
i would like to see the moguls split up like the nordic combined... maybe first do a hill with three jumps and no moguls, and have the jumps judged artistically, to knock off 10ths for the moguls only run that would follow.
i wouldn't mind watching -just- moguls either, obviously it takes a ton of skill and balance... i guess the jumps really take the focus away from the truly difficult part.
i've been meaning to check out the snowboard cross rules about "incidental contact" huhu im not great at snowboarding but i pretty good at smashing into people.
i don't think i've had my olympic awesomeness moment yet though. last olympics, the summer ones, it was when the cuban karate guy kicked the referee in the face.

raaaage!

Finland gets the hockey gold! Wohoho! Yeah!
It has to be a "ball game." Everything else is basically uninteresting for me. Solo games are boring to watch. I never enjoyed or got into that sport fanatism. Although they are enjoyable when doing it by yourself.

Re: Olympics
We award these medals for feats of strength and endurance performed by a few rare humans that any Na'vi can easily exceed on his worst day. Lame.

Re: Olympics
Canada won against Russia in men's hockey 7-3...............oh yea we are the best...we have to win gold at our own sport!!!!!!!!!
Re: Olympics
That was a freaking brutal game. I don't think the Russians were ready for Canadians to open up the NHL-style whoop-ass on them. You could tell that after it got close to fighting, the Canadians backed off on the checking... I think things very nearly came to blows.Ben96 wrote:Canada won against Russia in men's hockey 7-3...............oh yea we are the best...we have to win gold at our own sport!!!!!!!!!
Re: Olympics

Re: Olympics
Take that, bitches.
Americans got more medals TOTAL, but we got more GOLD. The thing about Canada is, we're not really into mediocrity. Sort of like the Spartans, but in a more "It is so cold your eyes don't work. You are likely to be eaten by a bear" sort of way.

i tried to record the hockey game on sunday so i could work, but it spoiled it when i saw people running down the street with flags; kind of easy to guess the outcome
