Firefox, especially for its addons.
Opera is nice, I'd use it if FF didn't exist.
Safari is buggy under Windows.
Lynx is fine if you don't like images, but then you can just turn them off in FF.
I don't trust Google Chrome to protect privacy.
I don't trust Microsoft at all.

What wins for me is FF's web development addons.

Essential addons:
Adblock Plus
ColorZilla (Web Development)
Ghostery (Identifies and disables tracking scripts)
HTML Validator (Web Development)
NoScript (Malware/Nuisance Protection)
Web Developer (The most complete web development tool ever)

Firebug has to be my favourite addon.

I have it. I left if off the list because I don't find it "essential" and it is difficult to use. Half the time my breakpoints seem to be ignored. The interface is confusing. I only need it for JS because the DOM/CSS functionality duplicates features of 'Web Developer'.

Just to be fair, that V8 vs. TraceMonkey link is over 1 year old. Currently, V8 owns all other java engines except Safari's, and they're just about tied (Peacekeeper shows a SLIGHT edge for Chrome)

What's so funny is that even Chrome 2 (almost a year old now) is still faster than current Firefox 3.5. Also, I'm on the Chrome dev build (updated every 3 days or so) and Chrome 4 is even faster. Adding insult to injury, when that link was published, TraceMonkey was in beta, and by the time they managed to implement it fully it was already obsolete.

Also, extensions are out for those of us on Chrome 4. Chrome 4 will be released soon. I've used Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Firefox and the only thing I've ever missed by using Chrome is extensions. Seriously, it's faster, sleeker, and has extensions now. It doesn't have a giant huge mega-sized toolbar that takes up half my view area. And, it's open source. Don't like something? Feel free to change it.

Um, this wasn't me. This was MILLIONS OF PEOPLE running their own tests. Peacekeeper just shows the average stats for each browser.

I also ran the tests on my own computer, circa July 2009, and have the link saved to my computer. The tests were run on FRESH installs of each browser, with no changes or settings modifications, with a complete defragment using MyDefrag after I installed them but before I ran the tests. The following tests circa July 2009:
  • Safari 4.0 beta - 2601
  • Chrome 3.0.192.1 - 2418
  • Shiretoko 3.5b5pre (Firefox Dev Build) -1544
  • Opera 10.00 -1470
  • Internet Explorer 8 - 658
While typing this I did a fresh install of Minefield 3.7a1pre (on my benchmark computer, not the one I'm typing this on) and ran Peacekeeper, then ran Chrome (which has the unfair advantage of having a 1+ year history and several extensions running). Results:

Minefield (JIT on): 2316
Minefield (JIT off): 1766
Chrome 4.0.266.0: 2658

So what did we learn from this? Nothing really. One browser is marginally faster. If you're choosing your browser based on arbitrary benchmark scores, you're doing it wrong (except in the case of IE, where I can actually feel my Gmail grind to a halt). The point of my OP was to discredit a 1 year old link showing obsolete benchmark scores.

Pick your browser based on the features you want. As I said earlier, Chrome automatically saves a search engine the first time I use it (any search engine, Wiki, Youtube, SpringRTS.com, etc), takes up less window space with useless navigation bars, syncs up my bookmarks with my Gmail account so I have my bookmarks on any computer, has extensions, is updated more frequently, has better history management and better tab management, and passes the most difficult web standards test, Acid3.

Seriously, the search engine saver is pure genius and my favorite "can't live without" feature. Why do I EVER want to go back to manually adding search engines to a "Search Engine Bar", which was made obsolete by Chrome's everything bar? I want to search Youtube quickly? Keystroke:
ctrl+t, y, tab, <search query>
4 buttons and my hands never left the keyboard. Wiki?
ctrl+t, w, tab, <search query>
Never had to program this or set it up. I used the searches once and it KNOWS. Creepy? Maybe.

Chrome does not, however, have a sexy anime avatar (which I'm sad to say I know was created by an artist by the name of Toy at toyboxarts.com, NSFW)

Until something comes along that is much better than Chrome, I'm sticking with it. It's currently the best browser out there, IMO, and I'm happy with it.

I tried Opera out over the summer. I didn't remember this feature at all. So I downloaded Opera, tried it out and...

not quite.

You can ADD a search engine into the bar, but you actually have to add it. I have to go to Youtube, right-click the search and go through a little setup menu to make this work.

Chrome? Does it automatically. The first time you use a search it saves it, and that's the end of story. No setup. No menus. It's just there.

in chrome you just type what you want

In firefox, its not that everyday usage is slow, its that the normal alright speed grinds to a halt and the whole window becomes unresponsive and freezes at a regular rate, even flash video is jittery under the mac, and going itno fullscreen is slow, this doesn't occur with OS X safari, or any chrome, or even internet explorer.

Firefox is fast becoming a victim of code bloat, and its sad because its a nice browser i have lots of fond memories for.

Chrome works, chrome is fast, chrome is consistently fast, and it doesn't randomly slow down or pause or jitter like firefox does. It loads about 50x faster than firefox even after using it for a while, its very responsive (whereas sometimes firefox code execution blocks while waiting for things ), and its lighter weight.

I miss firefox, but chrome does it better right now.

biased result when i run tribulexopermaterial.exe on both it say firefox is about 11 times faster than chrome, which is 42 time faster than safariosx, which is 1 time faster thann ie, which is .5 time faster than opera.

i dont know what it mean even though i wrote the program but obvious firefox (minefield) with jit is the best. Stop corrupting the data you biased biasers....
