Selfdestroying commander for metal
Of course, this is mainly about games with lots of players, not 1v1s. Commbombing issue aside, what's your opinion on this?
Re: Selfdestroying commander for metal
It is a very useful tactic, although it leaves you not only vulnerable, and gives the enemy lots of info, it also proves your a DSD porc fag.
Hint: when relcaiming leave a few % over so you can rez him in late game when you have lots of M

More useful to bomb something with it, you still get the same m.

Provided you have your rush team ready, yes.JohannesH wrote:More useful to bomb something with it, you still get the same m.
Best is when you bomb the enemy's comm and his porc hut. If you do it just right you kill about 1000+ metal worth of porc and knock his commander corpse to your side of the map. A single move can net you 5k of metal, kill a bunch of his shit, and give you some territory.
That said, economically speaking it's worth killing the commander if you have the build power to spare. He only generates 25 energy and 1 metal - that's about 4 construction bots, a metal maker, and an advanced solar plus 2000 metal to spare.
Re: Selfdestroying commander for metal
adds an option to semi-porc/porc team maps
in a nonporc map the comm is too valuable to throw away and the strat is rarely seen
in a porc map its much more viable, especially in low-metal 8v8 ecowhore situations for rear players

Re: Selfdestroying commander for metal
I do enjoy the self-d comm for metal tactic, but its tactically dangerous if you have a situation where you need a dgun and you've self-d'ed your comm.
Also, I thought the wierd bug where comm-metal would fly across the map if you caught another commander in the explosion was actually a benefit to the game since it added a chance where a commbomb might actually only get you 1k metal and give the enemy back their commander.

this isn't just some random direction. if you want your comm's metal to fly back towards your base, dgun the enemy commander with your boy between his boy and your base.[TS]Lollocide wrote: Also, I thought the wierd bug where comm-metal would fly across the map if you caught another commander in the explosion was actually a benefit to the game since it added a chance where a commbomb might actually only get you 1k metal and give the enemy back their commander.
Re: Selfdestroying commander for metal
If two comms are two close then the first comm to dgun will a) kill both comms and b) gain an advantage. So if you think the other commander might dgun you should do it first.hunterw wrote:this isn't just some random direction. if you want your comm's metal to fly back towards your base, dgun the enemy commander with your boy between his boy and your base.[TS]Lollocide wrote: Also, I thought the wierd bug where comm-metal would fly across the map if you caught another commander in the explosion was actually a benefit to the game since it added a chance where a commbomb might actually only get you 1k metal and give the enemy back their commander.

Well I've only seen the flying wreck once or twice, because it seems that doing a flying cbomb doesn't give it so much of a kick.
But yeah, I get your point.

Re: Selfdestroying commander for metal
I probably should have phrased the question better. Of course it's a very useful move to do, but I was asking about it being balanced as a general gameplay concept..
Re: Selfdestroying commander for metal
It is balanced enough, especially if you don't limit your point of view to DSD vs Speedmetal vs Greenfields.
