Night Vision Equipment
I'm looking at purchasing a night vision device for hobby use. I'm mainly looking at used Gen1 stuff from eBay at the moment, and I'm wondering if any of you have had good/bad experience with this stuff?
Re: Night Vision Equipment
Yes, I use one of these on my weekly rape raids.

Re: Night Vision Equipment
Is it for airsoft use? if so, i wouldnt suggest getting them in the first place(unless theyre scoped versions that are fitted on guns)REVENGE wrote:I'm looking at purchasing a night vision device for hobby use. The things are extremely delicate, and the bb shots can easily break lenses, and extreme maneuvering (especially in nighttime) makes it even more exposed to breaking (hitting a tree or a branch etc)
However fitting one on your gun (a scope) could work, and you could protect it by putting cheap transparent plastic on front of the lens (to protect from bb shots)
The price goes upwards from 200 euros, which is pretty steep for a accessory
The only experience i have had from nightvision was one guy wasting a whole squad(including me) in a big mil-sim game by lying in a forest and waiting till we were all around him, then he just executed all of us one by one. But situations like that AND games like that are rare
And all this information is void if its not for airsoft/paintball hobby use~~

You also might wanna check some more accessories for that:

Re: Night Vision Equipment
Not for airsoft use, mainly for hiking and navigational use.
I would totally get a rifle-scope if I had a rifle in the first place though. But for that kind of use, I'd probably have to dish out for a Gen 2+ unit, which is expensive as fuck.

Re: Night Vision Equipment
It could be good for marine navigation and night life observation when studying Ecology. I wouldn't look on ebay for that. I'd think it would be better to go to a specialized store that sold that kind of thing for scientists and all.

Re: Night Vision Equipment
I'd love to have a thermal imager as well, but those things can be an order of magnitude more expensive!
Anyways, I bought a used 1st gen Night Owl for around $70 shipped, although I'm taking a moderate risk since I don't know how much wear is on the tube.

thermals are cool for animals or people in concealment, but if you are using for navigation, id have to say most gen 1 is POS and probably not worth the money. gen2 isn't that new and if you really dig around you might find some for a decent price.

Otherwise ebay is your best bet. (even for that it may be your best bet)
There's really alot of factors, if you are planning on recording video some setups are better than other, the supervision for example doesn't have direct video out, so if you want to do that you either must mount a camera on the back or install vid out into the guts of the machine itself.
You can rent a thermal viewer unit for something like 99$ per week... It really depends what you want to do.

Re: Night Vision Equipment
There's a video on the website that shows tonnes of use footage. Reading reviews from people who know what's talking about, it's pretty much as good as civilian night vision gets.bobthedinosaur wrote:roflSwiftSpear wrote:http://www.xenonics.com/SuperVision/

I got a Night Owl NOCX5M for $73. I'm considering an ITT 150 Gen2 for around $300, but no way in hell I'll pay over $1000 for digital night vision bullshit.
