there are no bots.

Post by Wartender »

ok, i have downloaded spring, and so far i really like it (i've had to play alone but i still like it) whenever i start a game, whether it be from the lobby or from the actual game, no matter how many bots i add using any AI, no bots will appear in the game and i am forced to start and play with no one else on the field (which can get pretty boring). does anyone know why this is happening and how i can fix it?
this has happened using CA and BA, it does the same in both, it just says "waiting for other players to join" and they never do

What lobby client are you using?

In springlobby you should select the single player tab, and add bots other than the defaul global testai. (like kaik) Those work.

actually when i open it from the lobby it just crashes.
the AI's i have from the lobby are:
libTestGlobalAI
libRAI
libKAIK-0.13
libKAI0.2
libAAI
from the actual game i have a few more like commanders and air battle test, but none work, when i start it from the game i get my commander and a "ghost team"

the actual binary (spring.exe) isnt useful for actual playing. use the lobbies.

I recommend you post your PC's hardware and the infolog.txt file that's in your Spring directory

If you'd play KP you could use the single player launcher and avoid issues like that.

But that won't help for BA or CA.

Do you have TASClient or SpringLobby? If you have auto-updated to Satirik's last prank, have you afterward fixed your Spring?
libTestGlobalAI
libRAI
libKAIK-0.13
libKAI0.2
libAAI
Mine are called:
RAI.dll
KAIK-0.13.dll
KAI0.2.dll
AAI.dll

By the way whats your O.S.?
from the actual game i have a few more like commanders and air battle test, but none work
You're not supposed to run Spring directly but to use a multiplayer lobby (even for single player). Though I just checked, and, yeah, doesn't work too well, I have to force start and then the KAIK-0.13.dll still still doing nothing (not ghost team however).

Try feeding your Spring.exe the attached files. It will start the game with each KAIK AI bot working, as evidencied by pink ally doing foo.

The BA's TakeReminder Widget is buggy and doesn't handle AI, its button about units to grab should be ingored.

srsly?

If you started spring directly, and want to play against bots, you have to choose a startscript which has some AI name inside.

Beside that, you should use a lobby, because thats the only way on how to setup games (like placing bots, choosing difficulty etc.)

Also, try different AIs, some of them crash right at the start, and soeme of them do nothing.

KAIK works with plenty of mod, is rather effective, and most importantly, does not require handmade custom config files (unlike AAI and NTAI, so).

Well, lib prefix against dll suffix is what triggered my question about OS, since the only one I know is Win2000.

But startscripts do work the same in Linux, right?

I'd need some Linux dev guy to port/recreate KP's launcher in Linux if Linux players really do exist though.

Nevermind, if you run Linux what I said about TASClient and fixing Spring is irrelevant.

TestGlobalAI is an AI that does nothing. Basically a fake AI for test purpose. But the other, RAI should be functional.
