no, because it doesn't belong in the gundam universe
Re: Random WIP
Now onto texturing nightmare due to "deflective armour" design...
The dt is supposed to be rotated into desired orientation, the fortwall shall be scripted so that it tracks nearest enemy unit and keeps front towards it.

Thanks, man. But, and bugger it, I started to texture and UV map. The map wasn't bad, but the texturing was.Hoi wrote: *really helpful stuff*

Too late, started from scratch.Hoi wrote:show texture please

Edit: Here's the rework - took an hour or two. Currently textured with the default Wings texture, mid UV map. (Click for bigger, again.)

Has anyone got some UV mapping tips? The stuff Wings throws up looks like an abstract art piece from a drugged-up Peewee, which is damn daunting for a newb like me.

Another thing, don't listen to all those tutourials, they are evil and alot of them are written by people who are dumbasses, especially if they use the smooth modifier, what you should do is discover what all the functions do, and what's the diffrence between vertex, edge, fave and object mode, ect.

Re: Random WIP
I disagree - Pressure Line's tutorial for Upspring worked wonders, as did the texturing part of SpikedHelmet's rambling on Ultimate Unwrap. It's better to ask questions on the forums, though, as the tutorials are all over the place and some are half finished or not relavant.Hoi wrote:Another thing, don't listen to all those tutourials, they are evil and alot of them are written by people who are dumbasses, especially if they use the smooth modifier, what you should do is discover what all the functions do, and what's the diffrence between vertex, edge, fave and object mode, ect.

I heard that Google is supposed to be a good source of information
Re: Random WIP
Ah, the tuts on this site are fine, but on the wings site not, they usually use too much poly's or are too complicated for noobs, while it can be done much easyer (and a bit slower), maybe I'll write a modeling tutourial someday.

Re: Random WIP
amazing improvement, clockwork!
It looks like you are copying cremuss's design a bit (cremuss is the guy who made the ship hoi posted the second picture was Saktoth's reworking, however =P).
While your new ship is very good, you may want to try a more original approach in future models. Honestly, i was wondering how your original design would end up looking
Of course, you may not want to follow my advice, look where trying to be creative got me
And yes, the tutorials on the wings site all suck. the tuts here are mostly very good, if not a bit outdated
.
IMO texturing is what you really need a tutorial for (spiked's is the best I've seen so far), modeling is mostly improved with practice and staring at concept art
For unwrapping, spiked uses Ultimate Unwrap, you may want to look into that.
I use Blender for modeling and UVmapping, Blender has a powerful (read: better than ings) UVmapper built in. you may want to try importing your models into blender for unwrapping. Blender's ui is a little hard to get the hang of, however, but once you do, uvmapping will be a breeze ^_^

Re: Random WIP
Getting better and better, remember that if something needs to move it needs to be a seperate object.
Re: Random WIP
I feel rather odd telling a new modeler this, you can use more polies, it is ok.
this is a tank, I am putting about 1k polies into it.

Re: Random WIP
Use them becaus you need to though, not just becaus you want to use more.
