Content Error: Error at position 69?

Post by D-TurboKiller »

Hey guys, first time on the forums.
So, here is my problem: I run the "Test Spring" shortcut on the Spring folder in the Windows Menu. I try running with ANY mod, ANY script, ANY map and it does exactly the same thing. It just gives me the following error during the loading screen:

Content error

Error at position 69 near "

TEMP temp;
TEMP shadow, tempC" when loading fragment program file
groundFPshadow.fp

Also before you ask , I DID TRY DISABLING SHADOWS, but it still does the same error.

Here are my specs:
Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46 GHz
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (with latest drivers)
1 GB of RAM

I hope you guys can help me with this. I was really hoping to play this game for a long time.

3 days later and still not a single answer? *sigh* I REALLY NEED HELP HERE. Please, if you know this can be solved, let me know. I cannot find a solution anywhere for this problem.

Also, I don't know if this helps a lot, but this error occurs after it starts loading the "ground shaders".

You could check the disable sm3 shaders option? I don't know.

(hurr position 69)

I think your springcontent.sdz might be corrupted...there are no " characters in groundFPshadow.fp

Wow, thanks for the fast response guys.

No, I tried that already. No difference.
Peet wrote:(hurr position 69)

Well I don't think that's actually the problem... the windows installer didn't report any
errors during the installation...
Also, I checked this guy's problem:http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtop ... 11&t=16730
It seems he has exactly the same problem as I do, AND he has the same graphics card as mine. Could it be a connection here? Perhaps it's a bug with the graphics card...

Again any help would be appreciated.

Trry disabling reflective units? Or just disable *all* graphical features to make sure it's not any of them...

Ah, didn't see the GPU. It is quite likely that it doesn't like compiling shaders, probably just in a particular range of driver versions.

I can only say that a very similar setup works perfectly for me (vista, intel 965, etc.) Detail level set to the lowest preset.

Same bug. It starts from 0.77b, in earlier versions all works fine.

There is an old but little-known workaround available for this problem
(unsupported by the springsettings program AFAIK). You will need to
edit your registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SJ\spring and
change the 'Shadows' value to -1 (if negative values are not allowed,
enter 4294967295 or 0xFFFFFFFF). Don't assume to be free of other
glitches related to your GPU and / or drivers even if this trick helps
though.

Kloot, thanks. It worked with 0.77b5, but how to deal with this problem in 0.78.1 ?

Replace the registry part of my last post by "springsettings.cfg" (stored in "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data" or some similar hideous path).

Hi there,

got a similary Problem. Using latest Spring Release (self compiled), latest springlobby (self compiled), latest BA Release and the Maps "Eye of Horus" and "DeltaSiegeDry", i'm getting this error message shortly after the game actually splashed up for a moment:
Error at position 41 near "ARB_fragment_program_shadow;
" when loading fragment program file groundFPshadow.fp
Using Debian Testing from ~2 Weeks ago, running Kernel 2.6.27.7 self compiled.

lspci -v of my graphics card:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile GME965/GLE960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 30d8
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: agpgart-intel
Kernel modules: intel-agp

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GME965/GLE960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 30d8
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
Memory at e4400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable)
I/O ports at 4000
Capabilities: <access denied>

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GME965/GLE960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 30d8
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0
Memory at e4500000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
Capabilities: <access denied>
This is a HP Notebook.

I've turned all graphics options to the lowest possible option, didn't change something. Problem occurs right after spring loads "ground textures", or at least i think that was what i had seen rightly before spring exits.

Any advice? Oh, and i'm a spring beginner for the matter. :)

EDIT:

CPU: Intel 1.8 Ghz Duo
RAM: 1 GB, should be DDR2, but not shure.

Well, after setting the Shadows option in springrc to -1, spring works. But, are shadows actually turned on in some Way? Springlobby is saying Shadows would be enabled when i'm going to "Spring settings". And the Game is really slow, even with just about 0 Graphic Options turned on.

it runs only barely acceptably on windows with this gfx hardware, and presumably linux drivers are slower than that. need a better computer.

Trying out Spring on Linux for tinkering purposes. Same bug. Shadows = -1 remove the error message, I just get a straight out no-message crash. Intel G33 (aka 3100) chipset.
