I've pretty much said all I can say on the matter of the clan system. I've seen so many people wander off with high-and-mighty ideas about their pet projects only to eventually get bogged down and give up before they come up with version 1. Keep it simple, at least to start off with. There's no point coming out with a big and complicated clan management system because nobody will test it. You know why? Because nobody wants or needs it.
Anyhow, regarding smurfs. There's too much crap to quote, so I'll talk generally regarding the points made. Sometimes people want to rename. Thus, you need an available history of names. People will sometimes play from the same place, hence IP address. For example, Acidd_UK and I would be flagged as potential smurfs. You cannot stop smurfing, but you can make the information publicly available and implement features like automated warnings. The risk of false positives is rather high, you cannot just blanket ban multiple accounts on the same IP and e-mail verification doesn't work because people have access to pretty much unlimited e-mail addresses.

Noone wants to use a complex clan system. A system with restricted clan tag adding if you haven't been allowed into the clan by a clan admin would be ok but it's not needed atm.
Email verification would make smurfing take more time, most people are too lazy to smurf with email verification. Email verification could deter new players though because it's an extra step.

Suggest optional verification - people who are not verified will have an attribute set which lobbies can then display, just like some auction sites.

There is a website in which everything is held;ladder,profiles,everything.
If you want to perticipate in ranked clan games than you need to register your own clan if you have enough members to sign in or join another clan.
Nothing complicated about it,on the contrary,a website will have the infrustructure to ease clan organization.
They wouldnt have to make their own webpages cause they will have a webpage in the spring comunity website alongside all the rest of the clans and theyll have tools to easily communicate to other clans to schedule events or challanges.
It will be easier to vote on different things since theyll have the possibility to vote at different times of the day and wont have to all meet together jsut to decide something.
Nobody said lets do it all right now and make it complicated,i have listed the steps.
Each one can be takes slowly and thoughtfully.No need to rush.
And Google,yes now we dont need it but wouldnt it be great if we had a system ready to accomodate many more people when they come.
as to changing names.
Renaming should be limited to say ,one time per month(just throwing a number)so people dont abuse it and play with it like its a toy.
Second of all you can make them have only one profile in the website to which all their lobby renames will be addressed.
In the website they can only have one profile with their "real" name and all lobby renames would still be addressed to this profile thus if youl want to quickly see who a person is you can press a button near his lobby nickname and be readdressed to his profile(in hidden profiles information about win/los will no appear only the players personal identification and his clan affiliation which will also be shown near his lobby renamed nick.

okay i'm not going to lie i kinda just skimmed this thread but heres what spring needs
1) more players so it can be competitive (only reason i switched to supcom FA)
2) better ladder system (needs more players and more rewards for being a top player, think custom avatars)
3) a tournament award system, more custom avatars mayb, this is how supcom runs things and it works well
4) admins should be able to assign avatars to players for special occasions (like a dick avatar for faggots, or a golden trophy for tourney winners)
5) there isnt enough people to have more than a 1v1 ladder for spring really, its sad but true. SPRING NEEDS ADVERTISED!
back to supcom FA for me

Not bla bla bla wall of text but a few lines that sumerise the best features and are easy to understand and remember.
There are so many different projects on the Spring engine now,how can you advertise all of them together?
You can't.
The only thing that connects them is the engine itself but you cant advertise an engine to gamers,its pointless.
So if each project is to advertise itself,BA will remin unadvertised since nobody gives a rats ass about it(at least nobody that cares enough about it to invest time in advertising it).
Maybe if you step in and begine a Ba advertisemtn campaign.

You seem to be forgetting something very important Yan. BA is an illegal project (no use pussyfooting around it, *A mods are using copyrighted content without permission, no 2 ways about it)
So any advertising should be done with OC mods (imo) which certainly will not affect the number of competitive *A players.

Why not just change the whole project name and make as much stuff as we can unique and not linked to TA.
Maybe even just scrap TA and just call it Spring and if Atari or whoever ever came across us they wouldn't notice straight away we're a TA project.
Having to advertise " TA Spring " or " TA Spring Engine " and at the same time keep Atari from spanking us is ridiculous.

Jazcash, we did that 2 years ago, we changed the site name even from taspring.clan-sy.com to spring.clan-sy.com and changed the headings in the forums to suit.
