Help with (somewhat) new map.

Post by PauloMorfeo »

I'm trying to make a new map with similar gameplay and style to the Omega Island but that addresses some issues with that map (like it only beeing suitable for 1v1).

1st, i would like you guys to check it out in general. (better speak now than after the map is released)

I prefer having the metal in patches but i don't like having them in patches without the textures showing them and, since i can't blend them very well with the background texture, i thought of making it like this. (although i'm thinking about using the other method)

2nd, i want to ask how i can make the texture of the ground better looking. I'm happy enough with the texture of the water as well as the ground beneath the water but not so much with the ground.
The texture of the ground is not showing as it is suposed to be. For example, when i was making Omega, the first times i've shown it, it was untextured with a plain yellow. But the texture in game was like this:

As if some texture was beeing aplied on top of the plain yellow. That's what may be keeping my texture from looking better.

Anyone has any idea?

you can specify a detail texture that is repeated over the map... there are defaults so if you don't specify... you get the default

Cool, thanks. The texture now looks like it is suposed to be.

I've done more work on the map. Re-aranged the heightmap, the textures, the metal distribution, actually, most of it. But it's still basically the same.

I have the feeling that people will not like the texture of metal in the middle of the normal texture, again, but i really wasn't fond of the metal distribution and i don't like to have metal zones not showing up in the texture. But i'm still not very sure.
I will try to test it with some players and i will probably release it in a few days.

Here's how it looks now:

Crap, forgot to shrink the images...

Looks a bit too sharply defined.

Its a bug in the minimap preview of the client.

it only shows the terrain texture, and doesnt look at the waterlevel or colour.

The same happens in greenriver, metal-islands, volcanic islands and just about any other map with water.
(the only way to circumvent this is using blue seafloors, but that ruins the whole point of having a watercolour
