Spring trac site

Post by det »

I threw up a trac page for Spring at http://trac.springhq.org. This can be used as an alternative to viewsvn and fisheye for navigating the svn repo.

Also, it can serve as an experiment as a replacement for the main spring site. Keep in mind that trac is fully themable. Developer-centric stuff can be segregated from Player-crentric stuff. So feel free to edit the wiki (including the front page) to make it friendly and inviting. You must register an account and log in for the edit page buttons to appear at the bottom.

how about http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/MantisImportScript ?
it isn't listed as working on 0.11 and was last updated over a year ago, but i'd much prefer trac ticket system over mantis

I got the ball rolling a little bit. Added a few pages. I think the combined power of the Spring community could create a really nice site.

Probably because I've never had much experience with tracs (I'm only a player heh), but who you show us an example of a trac page, about anything.. that looks like a well rounded inclusive site?

As opposed to an organisational "tool" I guess for developers

try installing git support while you're at it... will help when we'll finally switch.

i found the git-plugin for 0.10 awfully slow. i would like to know tho if it's gotten any better with 0.11 or if it's generally a better idea to integrate git-web somehow

Git support in Trac is supposedly really slow and unusable. Though, I think Mercurial support is actually quite decent and is under active development by Edgewall (not 3rd party). Mercurial also has nicer windows tools.

hmmm why people haven't made wiki pages at http://newspring.clan-sy.com I don't know. I should really get around to doing that frontpage now I have a design.

You should port your theme to Trac, AF. It's nice, but I think Trac is a better fit for Spring than DokuWiki.

Trac is more developer orientated and its a nightmare to set up in most places. My own attempts to set it up on my host to see how feasible it was failed utterly after running into issues with setting it up and the instructions either being confusing or saying todo something but the expected output and the actual results dont match.

I appreciate Trac being used for bug tracking and stuff, but I don't appreciate the attempt to encroach on my own site effort.

Encroach on your site effort? I think det was just trying to be helpful because trac is really useful and everything but feel free to see the worst in it.

I would agree it is very useful, and I would support it as a replacement for mantis, but I'm not keen on the idea of it being touted as a replacement for the entire site.

The point is, what does DokuWiki offer that Trac does not? Having the bug tracker and other development stuff tightly integrated with the wiki is a big plus. A custom theme could separate developer centric stuff very easily without compromising usability.

Nice initiative, I've been pondering over a possible switch to trac for at least bug tracking / roadmapping / subversion (or dvcs) integration for quite some time already, but never got around to doing more then pondering ;-)

If you can make a suitable Spring theme & frontpage for it I'll also consider it for a possible new (development part of the?) site. Bonus points for integration with phpbb3 user accounts and a way to manage news like we do now :-)

Can you do stuff like locking wiki pages for editing in trac? (ie. frontpage)

trac is easy to set up btw on clan-sy (only serious con really is the mysql plugin being disrecommended still, AFAIK)

AF please don't view every site-related initiative as an "attack" on your site; this is an open source project and if someone gets a new site up faster/better/nicer then your one then so be it.

EDIT: ofc for possible wiki change same things apply as what I said to AF; that either current wiki needs to be automatically converted or it needs to be done for a reasonable part manually.

Is there any way I can get access to mantis/wikimedia/phpbb databases so I can attempt to import?

I've imported a month old Mantis databse into the Trac now. Take a look and see how you like it for bug tracking.
