Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
I get fairly mediocre performance on spring. It's at the start of the match and it only goes 40FPS max. I turned off Threaded Cores (Or whatever it's called in The Nvidia Control Panel for spring.exe). AA is only at 2x and the water is not on dynamic.
Specs:
Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.44ghz
4gb of Gskill Ram @ 1ghz
BFG 8800gts 512mb OC2
Latest Nvidia stable drivers.
Any suggestions? Side note: I can run Company of Heroes on highest besides AA, so I know it's not my pc.

Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
Try setting the process affinity to just one of your cores when spring.exe is running.
Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
Make sure ground decals is set to 1 and not something higher.
Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
Make that 0 since they make the game crash if you don't have an experimental build (or use ubuntu packages.)LordMatt wrote:Make sure ground decals is set to 1 and not something higher.
Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
Oh, well I use experimental build.

Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
i have somewat similar specs to urs (altho my cpu is oc'd and i got 2 gfx cards) and b4 i even tried spring i set threaded optimisation off in my nvidia control panel dunno if it made the difference but i got pretty good fps
any form of water past basic eats a bit of fps (reflective not so much)
with that setup u could play spring on high settings (shadows on but dont use more than 1024 shadowmap size) ground decals off (it crashes) everything else on max (altho i have grass at 0 it eats alot of fps and it dusnt even look nice half the time)
so id setup ur setting as follows
unit detail full
terrain detail full
tree detail full
water reflective+refrac (u can change this in game with the /water command to improved fps during games)
shadows on (shadowmap at lowest)
decals off
grass off
anti alising on max or 8x
and vsync on
and res dunno i play on 1280 x 1080 and runs fine
unit reflections on
im usually always at 60 fps on vsync regardless of map/mod (water and a tons of tree's spamming shadow reduces fps sometimes depending on zoom)
i never go below 30 fps and anything over 30 fps is way more than playable
hope this helps

Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
thanks otherside... that helped a lot! Thanks to everyone!
Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
np always happy to help :}

How to set "process affinity to just one of your cores"? and why does it help?FLOZi wrote:Try setting the process affinity to just one of your cores when spring.exe is running.
Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
Somewhere in the nVidia settings, or you can open up task manager and right click to do it. It helps because the nVidia drivers do something horribly wrong in an attempt to boost the speed a tad and end up slowing things down tremendously.

Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
Otherside, unless you use rotatable overhead, total war, or fps cams while playing there is no reason to have terrain detail at full. Set to 36 and watch your fps rise

Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
False, Tangerine and Tabula looks like shit in certain parts with a ground detail setting set to that low, even with TA camera (though increasing water quality does hide this slightly).
On other maps you can *see* the quality constantly changing if you have ground detail set to that low too, it's rather annoying, really.
Hell, on Tangerine it looks like the hills are *constantly* changing height on 36, but on full they stay the same size, like mountains are supposed to.

Re: Mediocre Performance (Specs Inside)
i have almost the same conf as you and i have ground details to 80, you can increase it ingame using home and end, and i have shadows to 4096 because i don't even get 1fps when i change it to 1024 and 4096 shadows are a lot nicer
