He speaks the truth tough, and he is not only speaking how he desires it to be, but how he thinks it will be as well.

He speaks opinion.
he is not only speaking how he desires it to be, but how he thinks it will be as well.
He is not in charge of CA so his desire is irrelevant. As far as how it will be, that is not his decision either mannored. He is just a fan of the mod.

2, and changes we will probably have to revert as they are unconsulted balance changes.
no CA balance changes on the main factions would ever be done on results from chicken :P
Otherside is just repeating what other devs have said. You cant always trust him to get it right but in this he is correct- we balance chickens around the other factions, not the other factions around chickens. Why? The other factions are more balanced and have been worked on longer, its just good sense.

Chicken as a third faction? Possibly. But it takes a lot of balance work, right now we're trying to finish up chicken and get back to polishing the content we already have.

Otherside isnt important enough as far as development voices that you have to argue with him Smoth, this discussion here isnt going to dictate CA's design direction or anything...
Missile turrets firing a volley and reload sucks a fat dick...
The reason behind this is simple. In order to be effective vs air a weapon must do a large amount of damage quickly, since air only spends a small amount of time in range. AA weapons must also have long ranges, due to airs speed and flight height. Yet a long range weapon that does a lot of damage and also hits ground is very powerful.

One solution is to have the weapon shoot a powerful shot when the enemy comes into range, then reload. If the weapons reload time is perfectly synced to the amount of time it takes for a bomber to turn around and come back for another run, this ensures the weapon does a large amount of damage quickly and is ready to do more damage in the enemies next pass.

However, a weapon with a low rate of fire and high damage per shot has a tendency to 'overkill' its targets and waste damage.

Therefore the solution is to give it a burst. However, the default burst fire wastes all of its shots even if it kills the target with the first, making its almost useless for this purpose.

Thus, the defender has a scripted burst fire (the same time it takes a bomber to turn around), ensuring it is perfectly geared towards shooting down fixed-wing aircraft.
Even little things like the gold morty.
The golden morty is included at your indulgence because its a trivial feature that doesnt really matter. It is totally contrary to almost every one of CA's design goals and gives a new ability to a unit that was already OP. CA isnt just a rule by majority consensus, it does have a coherent design direction (Not that Otherside is the one dictating or articulating it by any means).
I think that some units might need something like a "effective range marker", such as, for example, AA lasers/chainguns. True that their range is that big, but its quite counter-intuitive that their accuracy is very low and thus you need to count it on their range then making then...
This depends on the unit they are shooting, its movement and type.

I made the suggestion because I felt it might be fun for people Also how is the morty OP? Most units can get in on it easily. I didn't think it would fuck with you guys so much. if it is soo terrible remove it, honestly I was just trying to make a neat suggestion to make the morph feel more worthwhile(at the very least give people something that is flashy).

as morphing stands right now, I have no reason to morph a unit as I can just build the equivalent. IE, why bother mophing my AK when I could just build an outlaw. So I was saying to quant that it would be cool at least if we had a visual+ like a different color projectile or even a gold unit to pimp that we had a unit survive long enough to upgrade. I offered to make a gold version for each unit morph form.

AH so the missile turrets are meant to be anti-air. I was expecting more the ota style firing. it is possible to add a note in the description to say that it and weapons like it fire in a volley? Again, just a suggest and in no way a demand.

Back to morphing with another question. On morphing, quant said that people cry imba but most of the units do not live to see a morph and when they do we are paying a lot for the ability to have a unit further up field when an atlas or bear is cheaper for movement +.

Manored, that is the third time you posted in here that chickens have no metal extraction, and for the third time I will have to correct you.
Chicken Tube = MEX.
Chicken Tube = MEX.

This is deja vu. You'd post in every thread you can find that CA is unplayable for you because every time you were done downloading it you couldn't join because there was new version, no amount of arguing with you about how the cadownloader works seemed enough and you never acknowledged any responses.

psd for when lobbies support large faction icons.
I love it. Although chickens are not selectable in the battle screen and only playable as a hidden code, I'll have to find a way to put that in somewhere.

Thats kind of why i've been pushing for it. Chickens need to be a third race. Not just some unlockable, but a serious race of awesome.

And I agree, the other two factions should not be balanced off of the chickens, but vis-versa. I would also be perfectly fine with a limited number of chickens to choose from as well. They don't need nearly as many units as ARM or CORE do.
Just SPAM SPAM SPAM will be fine for me.

I'm sure others would agree.

The fact that the Morty is or was OP is not relevant. We can just nerf it. The Golden Morty just goes against CA's practice of not giving unbuildable units as XP upgrades (at least 4 economic units can only be obtained by morphing). Just like other upgrades, it's less economically efficient than building more standard Morties in a factory.

I think players have reacted positively to the Golden Morty. When they get one, they show it off to their allies. It's valuable because it's hard to get, not because of its power.

Now for something different:
Did you think of seeing CA as a game rather than a TA mod yet? Imo you really should go that way because the way in which you're developing makes CA let have almost as much in common with TA as Supreme Commander has in the near future...

In fact I think the nanolathe and having a command unit as start are the only things you still have in common with TA. So what started as a new balancing / gameplay mod with spiced up graphics imo has evolved far beyond that and so I'd see CA rather as a game of its own than a TA mod...

I mean you totally revamped the unit balance and behaviour, the tech trees (by sort of removing them to a flat tree) and most recently the eco system (mex overdrive). You added strong RPG elements with the morphing of experienced units and the golden morty now even is the first kind of a "hero unit" (well not heroes like in WC but you know what I mean). You're also not tied to TA design rules - best proof were the Core T1 Air units you temporaliry had integrated and which probably still were there if there hadn't been issues with the author. You also made the two faction very different with "special features" for each side while in TA there are rather nuances which make both factions different...

So imo you really should think about abandoning the whole TA idea with Arm & Core and go for something completely new. This would probably make some things a lot easier and you even could integrate the chicken as third race into your storyline without having the troublesome fact that they don't really fit into the TA universe if you want them to be a bit more serious...

Krogoth, I think the only thing stopping that from happening is a lack of modelers.

It would be nice if some mod project was community driven. CA claims to be, yet its not.

Maybe the ultimate mod would be one, where all changes are voted by the whole playerbase / the active players.

Currently CA has the capability of such thing (poll in CADownloader) but its not used much at all.

CA does follow a community development ethos in that anyone who wants to can contribute to it.

I have a lot of opinions and ideas, but to be honest I see no reason that the developers who are actually doing the work should pay the blindest bit of notice to them.

They're working on their own ideas for the repayment of seeing their own ideas realised. If we were paying them maybe we'd have a say, but not as it stands.

And here's some opinion...

I completely agree with Krogoth, and time is proving to me again and again that CA is the coolest TA-like thing on Spring.

No offence to Krogoth's MA here, it's also great but with one developer it is simply impossible for it to be as actively progressive as CA.

I also agree with Machiosabre and quantum. Unbuildable morphs, hero units, 'trading card' like rarities are valuable because they're hard to get, and therefore fun to try to get.

They don't need to be made game-unbalancingly powerful. In fact they could easily be mediocre value for cost, and would still be desirable because they're unusual. I find this adds to the game more than the current XP morphing system.

Going back to Krogoth's thread of thought, ARM and CORE are TA hangovers that could easily be split up, reduced and added to. I admit that I can't see this happening in the short term (although the development of chicken, I can), but if you're looking to really move away from TA then the sides need to alter, and preferably by more than name.

Actually, we have no more pewees :(. It would be neat if say the spherebot could have a jetpack upgrade giving it the ability to make short jumps like the assault troops in DOW.
