Ummm... maybe Im being realy stupid, but surly wether you can see a seam is down to how well your texture matches up at the seams you make? I mean... If I made a sphear and mapped it with 100's of seams but then made sure the texture shaded perfectly (like I just bucket washed the tesxture red for instance) you would have a red ball, with no visible seams. Im sure its just a case of the pros textureing well, not some weird way of mapping without a seam.

its easier said than done...

do a giant circle disk.

the centerpoint is the bottom of the spehere... and outer edge is the top end of the sphere, no seam...

just, LOTS, of distortion. :wink:
