sea maps = ^_^

There isn't nearly enough focus on sea in most mods IMO. TA-Battlefleet, EE and NOTA FTW! :D

its okay to use it, and i'd let anyone use it that credits me for it, but it's very bad form to take someone's work and use it without asking them. another reason it's bad form is that this map is released so soon after mine has been. if two maps come out at the same time with the same sky, it's hard for people to tell which author did the work.

i guarantee i spent more than 2.5 hours making that smd file, and i didn't get to eat cheetos and watch cartoons during that time - i got to archive and load my map a few dozen times tweaking variables until i found something that looks good, which is what more or less everyone else that maps does as well. if you're going to spend the time on making the height and texture map, you might as well spend another few hours making your smd so it's completely your map.

that's how i think at least. i'll spare you having to do it, but if you choose not to on some future map as well, remember to ask before you release anything.

Thx... FA Thx Wasp.. i spended two nights downloading Corallpictures, making Patterns and rendering a Lightmap to Overlay.. it was like that.. that sm3 format.. layer for layer every single one with a mask..

I even read those information which coralls are how difficult to keep and grow.

Oh, No.
I forgot to credit the Features.. sorry... sorry... i just wanted to release it, i was so proud to have something that really looks like i imagined it..

The Features in the Map are made by Smoth. They can only be used if he is properly credited. I am sorry.

I didn't say he couldn't use it, I said he needs to ask before he uses it.

You act like I am new to mapping or something. The same general rule applies to any user-made map for any game ever, why would it not apply here? I've let anyone use anything out of any of my maps for any game I make dozens of times, all they have to do is ask. In this situation, I've even given permission to use it WITHOUT being asked.

No, you need to back the hell up. SMD settings are fair game, period. I don't care where you came from or what games you've mapped for. Would you like 50+ links to my spring maps, or more links to other projects I've worked with?

SMD is universal. You wrote your smd from complete scratch, with no other help than the table in the wiki? Really. Kinda funny that the order ot commands is the exact same as Maelstroms SMD creator...

Don't EVER yell at someone for not giving you credit on smds. Smd's are nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary, and many of your settings have been copied from various of my maps, so I want credit damnit!

Forb... you're wrong about the law here. Just because you give away your stuff does not require other people to do so. Some people like to require credit or permission, and that's 100% legal.

If you don't understand that much about copyright law, then go Google about it until you understand.

SMD settings are just numbers, just like a heightmap or a texture map. Even though you can copy SMD settings with a text editor means absolutely nothing - you're still taking someone's work that is not yours, and if you do that it is not in good form to use it without asking if you can.

The fact that all SMDs are similar in the way they are created means nothing. The only thing that matters is that someone took time to make it, and in my case I spent 3 or 4 hours of my life making that sky. The name of the map is based upon the sky if that should give you any indication that I am proud of the time I spent on making a nice looking sky for that map.

You should read my posts and consider in your brain the points I am making, because the ethics involved with taking someone's work (work, meaning they spent time to create something) is universal no matter what format the work may be in - text, images, ANYTHING.
