I managed to contact M3G, the original creator of TLL. He seems wiling to release it under a free license.

So, now, what license do i propose him? What license were the Xect and the Mynn released in?

GPL would be fine, but it would officially require M3G to also release the source files. For Xect vs. Mynn those where not (always) available anymore.

The source files are unpacked HPI type files with non Cavedog models(but until now with some Cavedog texes), textures and scripts etc.

Ask for public domain, settle for GPL.

No other way around, ask for GPL settle for public domain.

Public domain is actually less open source then GPL as you don't have to share source with public domain, something that is required with GPL.
