New way to command " repair units "

Post by Carnagal »

Is it possible to command a " repair unit " to follow and repair when needed, a group of unit ?

I mean to command a " repair unit " on a group of units instead of a fixed area.

In the fire of a battle it is a huge time's spewing to try to do that.
The repair unit should repair other repair units too, in the process.

( If a lot of units need to be repaired then the ones who need the more should be repaired first ( for example )). We can imagine tons of complexes concept to classify who should be repaired first but at least we need this new type of command.

English is not my natural languae and I hope you undertood my wish.

I think that if I command a repair unit to guard a group and if something near to the repair unit ( a batiment for example, or a unit ) need to be repaired, then it should be perfect.

If there is a lot of things needing to be repaired, a priority system should be created ( every body should have good ideas about that )

Nice idea. Since this technology is already used with area attacking and such, it should be easy to implement.

it would be nice to be able to have the guard command made so that it could guard a set of units, and/or the same with the repair command.

something like how Homeworld did their multi-target selection (remember, hold down control and select the enemy and ur forces will smart target/engage them) cept in this case its repairs.

Or have it guard a bunch of units grouped by a number.

It would be great to implement this guard/repair group-area

I think to make it as simple as possible without anything fancy would be perfect to start

or make it so that the fight command works properly for construction units - ie rather than waiting at the start point like they do now, they should move along the waypoints and repair when something comes close enough and needs it.

That way you could just add a few cons (I'm thinking mostly freakers/farks here) to your buildqueues and send them in with the same fight order as the rest of the formation - they'd automatically assist on the way :-)

AutoHealOtherUnits=1 tag would be good. When set to 1, constr units will automatically heal any nearby units, if they're not already doing something.

could also link it to fire state, if needed

but still, the fight command really *should* sort most of this as-is, but it just doesn't work properly for construction units (maybe its just unarmed units?) at the moment - instead of moving along the line looking for 'targets' to repair, the con unit waits at the start point and only repairs units near to *that* - incidently also causing it to never finish the order...

TBH both should be put in, so that a nanospray is treated just like a weapon - ie it repairs nearby units when idle (depending on fire state) and can be used with the fight command to support attacking formations etc.
