Ive already got the minifig done (see previous page)

I was trying to think of something new for energy production, like a coal-fired plant that burned lego bricks instead of coal...

But instead i made a windfarm :(

Well there has to be a 2nd tech level... I'll make the lego burner and a fusion plant.

Heres the updated cannon I did. I have all those parts and some modeled already, however I was having some issues with Upsring at the time. I'll slap wings 3D on my new computer and see if I can't get it to work.

It should use gpl content...so when atari/the SC people get pissed at spring they wont kill this mod. (steal some from EE! XD)

Or i can just fart into a microphone and attack it with zillions of effects till it sounds like a laser, a gun, an explosion, etc.

for a commander you might want to go for something like the new lego exoforce,

http://exoforce.lego.com/downloads/Wallpapers.aspx

oooh pretty lego mechs with minifigs inside them

Those completely destroy the spirit of Lego... I remember when boxes came with thousands of pieces... now you can get four piece ships and settings...

Lego is getting more and more themed and with less and less builder creativity...it sickens me. I like to buy lego 2nd hand, you get a lot of variety that way.

Stick to the original colored bricks and cool plastic laser add on things. Themes were cool (pirate, space, ect) until they started using fewer and fewer actual lego pieces, and using the aforementioned four piece models.

We'll most certainly stick to the original blocks when it comes to buildings, tanks, mechs, etc.

But minifigs and there addons are going to be a bit more detailed.

And by detailed, i mean not made out of original blocks.

Here is my first draft of the commander, based off that exoforce lego set. I realize that the feet and armour are huge, but its very late and i will revise it later this week.

Cheers.

I really like this idea about a lego mod ! Just try to make the gameplay count more then the modelin & huge amount of units. I was so exited to try out the battletech mod thats pretty new, but got so disappointed in how complex it was to know what units did what, and worst of all, the balance was rediculous. My opponent spents 1 hour in collecting an army and one of my heavy missile turrets + onle tech 1 laser turret defeated it :D Needless to say, the balance was rediculously defense oriented. 2000 metal cost in defence turrets won easily a 8000 metal cost heavy attack mech.

Yey! I do want to help, but unfortunately I know nothing about modding. The only thing I think I can help is designing models using MLCad. I do have some models I made just for fun. If you want them (or just the preview), please tell me.

Those MLcad models would be a big help because its far easier to visualize the actual model when you have a design already done.

So we'd certainly like to see them

I am trying to think of different races, we'll need at least 2. And i think it would be cool for each race to have something special, but i suppose we could always stick with the 1 heavy, slow, expensive, but powerful race and the cheap, fast, light/mobile race.

Why not be different, and have one team have fast, weak, spammable scouts, and slow, heavy uber units, but no medium units, and the other team with lots and lots and lots of medium units, but no scouts + heavy units? Or have one team have fast heavy units, but the other team have uber-spammable cheap units that just crowd the heavy units and poke them till it dies? Or have one race thats got your general all purpous units, and another team that has lots of one purpous specialty units? Lots of ideas if you actually think about it.

Also, about races, how about take the older themed sets, like the Ice Planet, Pirates, stuff like that? Or have Old School, blocky things vs the New-School 4 peice snap together cool looking models? Or, Lego vs Technic, even chuck in a Mind Storms thing in there.

Ok, great idea here, have the uber unit from the mind storms!

Or, another idea, just make one race, and cram everything you can find together! You can have the basic spammable mini-figs, old-school block units, chucked together custom made cars, and the newer uber 4 peice units, moving onto some of the huge collecters edition models you can get, ive got like 4 collectors edition Star Wars models, including a robotic AT-AT that actually walks.

And resourse ideas, have Block Farms that make Blocks (logically), and Mini-Figs. Mini-Figs would be 'grown' from metal patches (very slowly) in mini-fig breeders, with, say, 1 minifig resource needed for an infantry, basic tanks and stuff, up to like 100 mini-figs to pilot the mechs? Then you can also explode lots of mini figs out into the air when a mech dies

Blocks would just be manufactured from a block factory (naturally), and would replace the Energy resource. Blocks would be required to make units, with the exception of mini-figs. Buildings and uber-mechs would require LOTS of bricks. Buildings could also use a mini-fig or two to build and run, as they need to be manned.

Just a few ideas to keep you happy. If you need my help with anything, just give us a yell.

I like the idea of Space team V Pirate Team V suburbia team...

but why anyone would want to buy a lego out of someone's house is beyond me, when they can have Spaceships and Pirates. Like me. Except I took the pirate lego heads and put them in space ships, and stuck the pirate flag onto the space ship...

so we have SPACE PIRATES!

Higher level units have to be a mishmash of parts...so like pirate ships with warp engines wired to them, and spaceships with cannons!

that would be so cool its lame!

you can also differetiate based on weapons types, shields, other special abilities, range etc. and the cost of units and relative costs of specific weapons.

Ooooh, how about resources be brains and blocks... brains would be represented by minifig heads but would be more fluid... you could even have a unit that builds minifig heads and then a special unit to load them up and keep them out of the way... or something like that.

I think we need a solid desingn idea at some point with a "We will make units that fit these 20 rolls for one team, these 20 rolls for another team, we will epand in this direction when we get those 40 units done"

and I really like the oldschool "theming" elements... throw those uber common "palm tree leaves" and other piraty stuff on one team, and then antenae and space themed things on the other... don't accctually use any other part of the theming, just slap palm trees onto tanks and stuff.... just use it as decoration...

Ok, Zoombies idea is kick ass. Hybrid things FTW.

Just as a side note, anyone remember disneys Treasure Planet? Not the best movie ever, but it had space pirate ships with rocket engines. Very cool.

Anyways, the unholy merging of many differently themed parts is a must. The more rediculous, the better! After all, thats what lego is about, making absolutely rediculous things come to life!

That resource idea is awesome! Ill see what i can do.

I really like the idea of one big race with everything, but i also like the idea of a average race vs. specialized race.

Damn. So many decisions that will make or break this mod....someone make these decisions for me :|

I will make sure that upper level technology is done as zoombie suggested, with tons of crazy units.

ooooo!

Space pirate ship! Space Pirate Ship!

But because it is disny, it probably isn't anything like how I would like it to be

Also can the ULTIMATE unit be a massive, ginormus spider that is constructed from EVERY LEGO SET IMAGINEABLE! I don't care if we see windows, tank bits, house bits, yellow bits...whatever. If its just big and has cannons, bows, lasers, artillery shells, missles, flack, and everything nice...then its the best thing ever.

The problem is that we arent using defined lego pieces. Everything is just modelled on what i can make with my own legos, so it is very difficult to mimic the lego pieces exactly.

As of now, everything is just made up of many blocks that will be textured with brick tops.

I dont plan on using many special fancy modern pieces, unless thats what the community wants.

I was hoping to make everything out of the original lego blocks to keep that classic lego feel. That doesnt mean they cant be huge and cool with lots of guns!
