cloaking cloaks a unit as in hides it from visible sight
jamming hides a unit from radar
go figure

Spikes are cloaked and stealthy. Stealthy means they can't be detected by radar, and while cloaked they can't be detected visually.

do you know that there is a Long Range radar jamming structure that often comes into play mid and late game? do you realise that the aforesaid structure JAMS radar? and that JAMMED radar may not indeed give away location of aforementioned spies? which have a low decloak radius?
Enemy radar jammers DO jam their own radar however, that is one thing that is not intuitive, so i'll let you get away with it :P

Yes, they are. Check more closely. Spies, Gremlins, and Sharpshooters are totally undetectable when cloaked unless you trip over them.

nicklg03: There's two kinds of detection avoidance in AA:

Cloaked: cannot be detected visually, but you can spot it if you enter the decloak radius or can detect it VIA radar.

Stealthed: you can't see it on radar, but you can detect it visually unless it's cloaked.

AFAIK, they're identical. The Core one's a bit more expensive, slower, and tougher. But they both cloak for the same cost, and they're both stealthy.

Pitbull

Post by Mr.Frumious »

Could the pitbull get a teeny bit of blast radius? Nothing much, just the size of a 2x2 unit? I ask because I find it extremely frustrating that pitbulls can't hit crawling bombs - the crawler is too small a target for the Pitbull to hit, and the miss does zero damage - it's so frustrating to see a crawler or two rush a line of pitbulls and blow them to bits.

1: you should never have a line of heavy defenses in the average game
2: your defenses should always be mixed!

Crawling bombs are worthless anyways. they blew eachother off the map or kill eachother. which means you can only use them in groups of one or less.

Crawling bombs are like all the other units in AA, they're good in the right context. Saying they're useless just show's you don't know how to use them...

how do you use them then?

In OTA, You used trains of them to clear out defence lines, Which they were exceding good at. now they kill eachother and blew eachother off the map.

I use them for coastal assaults at times, spread in a far line - four rows of three far enough apart not to catch each other in the explosions. I've also dropped them on cleared hills to wait for the counter rush as I build up an occupying force.

Nothing is more hilarious than good crawling bomb usage.

The problem you're probably running into is that LLTs/HLLTs/Beamers (and possibly HLTs and Vipers?) counter crawling bomb swarms. Using them to assault a defensive line with any of the above is futile.

Things you can do with them:

1) Use their climbing ability to hit an enemy base over otherwise-impassable hills or along the bottom of a river.

2) Use them to flank and ambush enemy combat units that are fighting your units.

3?) Does airlifting them for a flying bomb still work? I vaguely remember this producing impressive effects sometimes in OTA...

4) Use them with Spiders for a cheap, all-terrain suicide force.
