In S44 it's done by having 2 tread pieces for each tread
You need at least three, perhaps even four pieces to make it look decent. If you are clever you know how many units a pixel is (1/image_size) and can offset the UV coords properly for fluid non breaking animation.

Alternatively you could say that a certain region on the texture is preserved for all treads and get someone who understands shader languages to write you a pixel shader which moves this region across the UV area

just mucking with the set seeing what it's like... idk what this guy is, maybe a thud or something. comments to improve the texture are welcome.

i could certainly give treads a go then; doesn't sound tooooo bad

I like it. Give it longer barrels and you have a thud replacement for sure.

What would the prospects be of creating a BA clone with lego model replacements like these?

That is a little odd, as far as your lego units go. I may have some time later today, I remember you wanted some detailed feedback on various models and textures. If you PM me links to the specific threads/images in threads, I can try to help.

mmm is it the three-way symmetry? just really testing bumpmaps and seeing what they're all about... would look very out of place in OTA; not so much in evorts methinks

but yeah im totally bugging you soon for some critique, im just not quite there yet

I like the design of the unit on second glance, the discomfort is with the texture. It has a lot of nonfunctional detail, but this is entirely a stylistic concern. It just seems like much of the unit will appear muddled further out, you have fine lines and panels all over.

Those new models are pretty nice. They look like they will fit great with the rest of EvoRTS so far. One question, about how many of those parts' polygons are underneath or unseen by other parts? I guess it's a small sacrifice for prefabbed pieces, and won't be much a problem if they are relatively small poly counts in the first place. I guess another plus side is modular damage that can look pretty good with lots of parts to break off.

Love the turett.
PW looks like mr freeze with duck legs ^^

Suggestion for the plasma bots.
Make shoulders be wider than the legs(join legs closer together).
Extand barrels a bit forward and the triangular back side of the arms extend to the back.

Maybe take inspiration for PW from my humble sketches?

Sometimes its good for a unit to be butt ugly, makes it memorable and easy to recognize, sticks in your head, fosters nostalgia and strong associations.
