Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
urban assault? Really old game that came with a joystick I bought; kind of the same as spring with the fps control but more flexible and it was good fun back then. Wish more modern rts' did the same thing...

If you have the will to follow through with the development on the coding aspect of this, i'd be interested to help with models & textures etc.Regret wrote: Basically I would like this to became a mechwarrior-like game but lack the will to do so. So I'm hoping someone would like to help me in further developing this game or at least use it as a base for some other cool game etc.

Sounds like a promising game!

Good to see people are willing to help :)Wolf-In-Exile wrote:If you have the will to follow through with the development on the coding aspect of this, i'd be interested to help with models & textures etc.
I intend to finish this game, but can't without modelers or people that make shiny effects etc. I'll send you a pm of criteria mech models must abide to sometime soon. Need to fix few bugs first.

Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Are you suppose to be able to shoot all 3 weapons at once? Atm you can. Also could you make the mouse buttons fire the weapons as well as the numbers?
Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Yes it is meant to be possible to fire all weapons at once. Mouse support will be added later on. This version is more of a 'tech demo' to demonstrate what are the possibilities.Google_Frog wrote:Are you suppose to be able to shoot all 3 weapons at once? Atm you can. Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
I meant battlezone, it sucked.play battlezone
Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Blasphemy. Battlezone kicked ass - I'd love to see a modernized version where you can have more than one human player in the same team. Battlezone 2 lost some of the charm, though.

one is available on xbox livePxtl wrote:Blasphemy. Battlezone kicked ass - I'd love to see a modernized version where you can have more than one human player in the same team. Battlezone 2 lost some of the charm, though.

Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Actually that's a remake of the original 80s vector arcade game, not the late 90s RTS/FPS(ish) hybrid, smoth

Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Well pxtl said he wanted battlezone not a sequel to battlezone. So I presume he means the original.
Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
No, I know it's confusing, but I meant the '90s fps/rts. It also had a sequel, called Battlezone 2, which was another '90s fps/rts that had a lot more polish and some neat ideas, but imho lacked the charm of the first fps/rts one.smoth wrote:Well pxtl said he wanted battlezone not a sequel to battlezone. Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Y'know, I have a lot of random mech models lying around that I'm not doing anything with...
Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
Hmm. Follow me on this one.
Rez the Battletech mod and use the units that have currently been completed. Allow players to choose a house/faction in the game lobby (Davion, Liao, Steiner, Clan, etc.). Once the game launches, players vote on a commander before the game begins. Then, non-commanding players choose an available mech, depending on available funds. Commander chooses a start position, game starts, and a dropship deploys. From then on, mechs come out of the dropship and are controlled in Jaz's 1st/3rd person perspective, and duke it out on the battlefield. The commander plays in RTS 3rd person camera, and can build the wide variety of support vehicles you see in MechWarrior/Commander games (repair facility, copters, call in bombing strikes, etc.). Commanders can issue waypoints to help pilots maneuver around on the battlefield.

Then upload them and stick em under a usable liscence?Guessmyname wrote:Y'know, I have a lot of random mech models lying around that I'm not doing anything with...
While im all for using content thats just sitting around on someones PC wasting away, this is asking for a C&D. AFAIK, the Mechwarrior IP is pretty securely guarded.Rez the Battletech mod and use the units that have currently been completed.
You can probably get away with it for a time but i think this project has a lot of potential. But thats ok, put the base under a free liscence and let it fork.
Re: Mech Combat - (3rd person shooter game) Work in progress
I'm too lazy to dig up the thread and quote anything, but I'm pretty sure the BattleTech mod found that making a mod based on BattleTech IP is legal. Besides, there are other higher profile BattleTech projects going on out there (the Crysis mod comes to mind), and I haven't seen any of those get pegged.Saktoth wrote: While im all for using content thats just sitting around on someones PC wasting away, this is asking for a C&D.
