Is there a debian package or some other easy installer for beginners for ubuntu/debian operating systems?

That would include spring too, of course

mammadori was working on one.

Check that thread. Looks like first post is about a debian package including Spring and Kernel Panic. I don't use Linux myself so don't know how well it works.

Great. I just looked at that. It appears to install only Spring, not spring and Kernel Panic together, but I can't tell for sure. It seems that the kernel panic mod was rejected and I can't find out where to get it.

I'm looking at that. But I want to be sure it's the right thing. I'm kind of new to linux and don't want to miss install/break/destroy anything on my system

UPDATE: Just tried to install. I'm missing alot of libraries, is there an installer for those?

aehm... missing libraries for what? KP should not need any, and if you installed spring through the package repository, you should also have all the needed libs already. mods/games and maps are simple zip files (with other extensions, eg. .sdz), you can not really do anything wrong there, just download them and put into ~/.spring/mods or ~/.spring/maps.
SpringLobby also has a downloader integrated, which should let you download KP (maybe that is most convenient for you to get new versions).

Missing libraries for Spring. The installer doesn't automatically install them.

Just got it all working. Except that spring crashes and it's only version .80.5.1 or something like that. How can I upgrade it?

Error message on crash: will be posted when next seen
