Y-Axis movement orders

Post by SpikedHelmet »

Would it be possible via LUA to develop a way to give y-axis co-ordinates for movement orders?

The idea is basically similar to Homeworld -- holding down a button such as shift or alt or whatever activates the y-axis (turning off x and z axis movement) for move orders.

Can lua trickery do this?

Movecontrol I guess.

Not sure about holding down.

So what do you want this for? harriers in s44?

movecontrol is unrelated. Move orders are already given with 3d coordinates, just make a suitable widget.

Well, I don't know what he wants this for, but I can imagine this being awesome in THIS.

You are pretty much on the right track.

Spike on his IW in space path again? ;)

Really, if you're after something like that, homeworld's got a great engine for it...

In all honesty, I doubt he'd want to do something from an established 'universe' again.

For one, it'd be useful in S44, or any mod really where being able to determine at which altitude planes operate -- sending bombers above anti-aircraft for instance, especially dive bombers :D

It'd be super-useful for any space mod.

Would that actually stop them from shooting? I'd be weird if you'd get vertical shots

Also, the s44 thread needs more eyecandy:)

Rather than painful movectrl stuff, is it possible to change the cruisealt of individual units, so that aircraft can be controlled in 3D?

It would be pretty easy to do this in LUA.

Restrictor aka daan on forums i think did that in his mod. You can set height where planes fly. They just lift vertically and than fly normally.

I think you have to movectrl or morph the plane for that.

I decided not to pursue something like this in THIS since it was nothing but a massive hassle in Haegemonia.

Homeworld 2 did it, and it turned out fairly intuitive and hassle-free, hence wanting Homeworld 2-style :D
