Spring Freezing about 1 second after game start

Spring is freezing about 1 second into game start and I can't seem to figure out why (this is running a local test game or an online game). I don't get any error message on the console when it happens, the simulation just seems to stop.

I was using the Ubuntu Karmic 64bit packages, but then got some boost errors, so I compiled it myself (which fixed the boost errors). The freeze is quite a hard one requiring kill -9 PID to kill the process. Any way to debug this?

are you saying there's no errors in infolog.txt as well? For hard lockups i'd look at GFX issues first. Maybe try without twinview or low-res windowed.

rebuild passing -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=DEBUG2 to cmake args

then launch spring using gdb spring

in the gdb prompt, type run
if it crashes, type bt
if it doesn't crash, but freezes, send ctrl c to the console, then type bt

Hi neddie! I guess I am just passing through in the hopes that I'll have time to play some this summer.

I did try it windowed at lower resolution and got exactly the same problem (I didn't turn off twinview though, but the window only took up one screen). There are no errors at all in infolog.txt The following is the result from following Brain Damage's instructions (in low res windowed mode):
