Current issues with 0.96 and a couple of others?

Post by Capt. Fragman »

Ok, Win7 64 operating fine no issue:

1. When I do a fresh install of the current lobby and 96.0, then manually paste in all my maps and games to the appropriate x86/spring folder. None of the maps or games show up and the "reload button" does nothing. The "test Spring" option doesn't show them either?

2. I have been gone a while but maps & games used to download as a .sdz & .sd7 file. Now they come down as .zip files..... how do you convert them back to .sdz / .sd7 files?

Thanks for any help!

1. Tell us what folder you think is the appropriate folder.

2. If you download games using the lobby they typically go into a "pool" (instead of sdz/sd7) - the point of this is that they can be updated incrementally when a new version is released, wtihout having to download a whole new sd7/sdz.

Have not downloaded anything through the lobby, manual past to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\maps & C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\games

Also there is nothing in my C:\Users\The Rig - SSD\Documents\My Games folder? Should there be or is this only used for saved games?

Thanks!

Spring directories have become a mess, some lobbies use the my documents path and put everything there, some use the spring install directory. The best way to find out where your stuff is by grabbing a good file search utility (agent ransack is good for windows: http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack , win7 native one sucks), and search your computer for "infolog.txt". Pick the hit which is most recently modified and open it.

There is a section in infolog that shows what folders are used. Mine are the following:
[DataDirs] Portable Mode!
Using read-write data directory: U:\bin\Spring\Data\
Using read-only data directory: C:\Spring\
Using read-only data directory: U:\bin\github\Ecostats\
Scanning: C:\Spring\base
Scanning: C:\Spring\packages
Scanning: U:\bin\Spring\Data\maps
Scanning: U:\bin\Spring\Data\games
The maps and games ("mods" is deprecated, use games) folders can be in any of those dirs, but data is saved to the read/write dir.

To answer your other questions: are you sure the zip file doesn't contains all the maps or games? If not, the rename the .zip to .sdz (.sdz are really just renamed zip files).

Ok, I'll try renaming the .zip's to the .sdz / .sd7 and see if that does it, thanks!
My infolog shows:
"Using read-write data directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\
Scanning: C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\maps
Scanning: C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\base
Scanning: C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring\games"

So I assume that I am pasting the maps and games in the right place? Still no workie and still no change with the reload button....... HELP!

Capt. Fragman wrote:Ok, I'll try renaming the .zip's to the .sdz / .sd7 and see if that does it, thanks!
But first open the zip file and see it doesn't contain any maps. It's very unusual for anyone to distribute a map file, a .sdz or .sd7 file, as a .zip file. It's more logical to pack several files into one zip archive.

Download a test map from springfiles, such as http://spring1.admin-box.com/downloads/ ... s/duck.sd7 and test if you can find that map.

Ok, I downloaded from Spring Files: Duck and it dropped a nice duck.sd7 on my desktop as well as harbinger_2.
Melange_v1 opens a IE browser and displays a scrambled text file at http://springfiles.com/sites/default/fi ... nge_v1.sd7 ??? This file must be broken?? The B/A 8.0 download is still a .zip file with individual files & folders in it??

I clicked the Duck & Harbinger maps, got the message that they had been saved and to "reload" in the loby........ neither of these two maps shows up in the map list?

The BA 8.00 download is not a zip, it is a .sdz file, see the filename on http://springfiles.com/spring/games/bal ... ilation-47. Nothing is broken - probably your browser (or some utility that you've installed) has auto-renamed it to a zip file without telling you. Change the extension back to .sdz and Spring should recognize it.

Alternatively, delete your .zip, join the lobby, join any BA game and it will automatically download BA 8.00 for you in a format that Spring can actually use.

Ok, but what's causing the the lobby to NOT pick up any maps or games, even those manually pasted to the games & maps folders (and they are the .sdz /.sd7 files)?

Thanks!

You haven't even told us which lobby you are using, and even then, without seeing examples of the files that you've created along with your lobby config files or an infolog, I doubt anyone will be able to work that out for you, or fix whatever problems your browser causes.

In general, downloading games manually is not something players are expected to need to do anymore - it is much easier to log in to your lobby (e.g. Springlobby, Weblobby, ZKlobby) and use the auto-download system.

Also Tasclient nowadays autodownloads files. And so does also Notalobby. I understood that it no longer uses unitsync so then it can also be recommended to users.

Wow, really? Can you support that statement? If so, that's a huge step ahead.

It's just a rumour, someone from NOTA has to confirm whether it's true or not.

Ok, current spring lobby so that would be 0.195 What files do you need to see (if other than infolog?)

Manually downloading should not be an issue with a released ver. of a gam and manually pasting my saved maps & games shouldn't even be a question. Is there a problem with using maps & mods that have been saved for quick access? Our download speeds really suck out here and I have 7gig of maps & mods??

Thanks,

go to edit -> preferences -> spring and "add new", then tell your lobby where to find the unitsync.dll file that sits next to your spring.exe file.

1) Use http://www.pastebin.com.

2) You are using Spring 96.0, which is currently live, with BA V7.19, which is 3 years and 81 version numbers out of date. Update your BA to the latest (V8.00, available here: http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=32244) and you should be fine.
