Well as far as I can tell, it's fairly linear. I can't tell if places where you spawn on maps is random or not. Seems to be at least semi random.

Afaict, tech is more or less linear.

If you don't know the maps, you can expect to spend the first few hours hopelessly lost. Imo, best thing to do is pick someone and just follow them around.

There is only one way to see the entire map at one time, and pressing that button blurs everything around it, so you can't be looking at the map and walk around.

As the alien guys you get no minimap, so you end up spending a lot of time in ceiling corners looking at the map trying to figure out what is going on.

The map does not very accurately portray what it happening buildingwise afaict, which is a pretty big downside.

Synopsis: If you know the game well, I'm sure it would be a lot of fun, but as a newbie, it just isn't very entertaining and gets boring pretty fast.
